‘Far Cry 7’ is happening but you might be waiting a while

Far Cry game developers Ubisoft have promised a new game is on the way – but you might be waiting several years for it to launch.

During a financial meeting yesterday (May 20), the company promised to deliver a “significantly stronger and diversified content pipeline” over the next few years after reporting losses of €1.3billion during the 2025/2026 financial year. They did warn that the 2026/2026 financial year would be a “low point” due to a “softer release slate” and restructuring costs as it works towards a “much stronger and sustained content cycle”.

Ubisoft bosses then said new Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon and Far Cry games would be released before the end of March 2029 as part of that retooled content pipeline.

Far Cry 6 was released in 2021 and a couple of years later, it was reported a sequel and a multiplayer spin-off were in the works. Earlier this year, Ubisoft boss Yves Guillemot teased “two very promising Far Cry projects” were in development.

A live-action adaptation of Far Cry is also planned. “Ubisoft has been remarkably generous, entrusting us with one of the most iconic video-game worlds ever created,” said It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia star Rob Mac who will co-create the show alongside Noah Hawley (Alien: Earth, Fargo).

Assassin’s Creed fans got a brand new game last year (Shadows) while a remake of the beloved Black Flag is due out in July. Codename Hexe, believed to be set during the witch trials of the 16th century, was announced back in 2022 and is expected to launch next year. However that may be delayed after the project lost two game directors.

A live-action Assassin’s Creed adaptation is currently filming in Italy, with Euphoria’s Toby Wallace playing one of the show’s two leads. It’s been reported that he’s playing an original character and not someone from the long-running series of games, which has some fans worried.

In other news, post-hardcore band Static Dress have released a free-to-play psychological horror game The Magistrate’s Loop inspired by their new album ‘Injury Episode’.
