Demi Lovato Reveals She Almost ‘Gave Up’ And Relapsed Upon Reading Article That Called Her ‘Morbidly Obese’ After Rehab

During a new interview, the star opened up about the reason why she found herself wanting to go back to drugs right after her rehab stint back in 2018. As it turns out, Demi Lovato lost all her determination when she read a headline that went as far as to call her ‘morbidly obese.’

As fans know, Demi was in rehab for months after the drug overdose that nearly killed her and kept her in the hospital for two weeks.

But even after such a scary and worrisome experience, Demi admits that she still wanted to use the harmful substances and it was all because of the public’s judgment.

During an interview for PAPER Magazine, Demi recalled that ‘I think it was right after I got out of rehab in 2018. I saw an article that said I was morbidly obese. And that is the most triggering thing that you could possibly write about somebody with an eating disorder. That sucked, and I wanted to quit, I wanted to use, wanted to give up.’

This came into discussion while Demi was explaining the reason why she no longer reads any news articles about her.

‘And then I just realized that if I do not look at those things then they can’t affect me. So, I stopped looking and I just really try not to look at anything negative. I think the positives outweigh the negatives. I think that if they did not, I would not be doing this.’

It makes sense that the artist was so affected by that article criticizing her weight.

After all, she has been pretty open about struggling with an eating disorder.

While she has come a long way and recovered, Demi has admitted, for the same news outlet before, that she struggled with body image issues and extreme dieting.
