The Daily recently caught up with “Ozark” and “Apartment 7A” star Julia Garner at Raf’s in SoHo to talk about her love of Nespresso, morning habits, and what she has coming up!
How did Nespresso know you were a coffee gal?
I’m a big coffee drinker. It’s almost a problem! When I got the phone call, it was a very easy “Yes,” because I love coffee and the commercials are so iconic. Nespresso is also such an amazing brand. It was very exciting.
The Nespresso commercial with George Clooney and Simone Ashley has been out for a while now. How did people respond to it?
It was only positive feedback. It aired in a lot of places. I’m always so shocked by that. Maybe because it’s me! It was surreal experience when I was in Wellington, New Zealand shooting earlier this year, and there was a Nespresso store there. My picture was there with George Clooney! That was really great!
How many cups of coffee do you drink a day?
It depends on how much I’m working. If I’m on set, it can be three cups. If I’m not working long hours on set, it’s at the most two. One in the morning and one after lunch.
Not too bad. How do you like your coffee?
I go through phases. In the morning, I typically have it black. Then I like a cappuccino with regular milk. It’s just better. And at a late dinner at night, I love a Nespresso after my meal.
What’s a typical morning like for you?
I get up, I brush my teeth. If I’m healthy, I will have a glass of lemon water before my coffee. But normally that’s not the case. I go downstairs and put the Nespresso machine on, and have coffee for 20 minutes, and regroup before my day.

Are you a morning person?
I’m a morning and a night person. I like to get up early, but I also don’t like to go to bed. So…that’s the problem!
Are you tired all the time?
I am tired all the time! When I do get up early and do get enough sleep, I’m very happy.
What are your favorite products from Nespresso?
I liked the Melozio [coffee pods]! Whenever I go into the store, I always know from the color and the smell!
The holidays are coming! Are you a big holiday person?
I love the holidays and I love gift giving. For gifts, anything coffee-related is great to give. A Nespresso machine is a great gift that people are always happy with. I like gifts with people’s initials. It feels personal! I like things that the person would never buy for themselves.
What’s your favorite kind of gift to receive?
Things that are personal. They don’t have to be fancy. I also like a practical gift! I’m a big practical gift person. Something that’s useful.

Thank you! I can’t take credit. Elizabeth Saltzman is my stylist. She’s like family. She puts everything together. We have so much fun working together.
How long have you worked together for?
Six years! We both grew up in New York. I feel like I’ve known her my whole life.
Do you have favorite designers?
Gucci. All of Gucci’s designers are incredible, and Sabato [De Sarno] is amazing. What he’s doing with Gucci is amazing. Now you are seeing that [Ancora] color red everywhere. He started that.
Would you ever want to do your own capsule collection?
I’ve never thought of that! Maybe!
What would it look like?
I”m not big on trends. They don’t age well. I find them boring. I like things that have a classic feel to it. I like anything with a contradiction. Masculine and feminine, strong and soft. I’d like to do something very new, but also old at the same time. Something modern, but something that feels Victorian, too.
What else are you working on now?
I just wrapped a few days ago on The Fantastic Four. I just got back from London a few days ago. It’s really exciting.
Are you still attached to the Madonna biopic project?
Yes!
I saw recently Madonna wants do it as a television show.
That’s the film business. You never know. You know as much as I do!
