Jihyo of TWICE and Jamaican artist Shenseea released their joint single “Distant Lover” worldwide today. The track dropped alongside a live music video and an open physical pre-sale.
The official Fandom account confirmed the news on Instagram with a short announcement: “Distant Lover” is out now, worldwide, Jihyo (TWICE) x Shenseea, music video live, physical pre-sale open.
It’s a collaboration crossing a lot of musical geography. Jihyo is the leader of TWICE. The nine-member South Korean group debuted under JYP Entertainment in 2015, and she’s been one of its main vocalists across a full decade of releases. In 2023, she stepped out as a solo artist with her mini-album Zone. “Distant Lover” continues that solo chapter, but the direction is something new. It’s a sound TWICE’s catalog has never really touched.
Shenseea brings a completely different world to the track. The Jamaican reggae and dancehall artist has been building an international profile for years. Her appearance on Kanye West’s Donda in 2021 introduced her to listeners far outside the dancehall world, and she’s built on that steadily since.
The gap between Jihyo’s K-pop background and Shenseea’s roots in Jamaican music is what makes this pairing interesting. Cross-genre collaborations between K-pop acts and artists from other global music traditions have been getting more common. The novelty still holds here, though. Jihyo and Shenseea don’t share a fanbase, and a collaboration like this means both audiences get introduced to something new.
The Fandom Instagram announcement pulled over 91,000 likes, a strong early signal for a debut release between these two.
One of the smarter things about today’s drop is how it came together. The music video went live at the same time as the audio. Plenty of releases stagger the rollout, holding visuals back for weeks to sustain attention. Releasing everything at once gives listeners a full experience on day one. That tends to drive more immediate conversation.
The physical pre-sale being open now will matter to a specific group of listeners. Physical releases carry real cultural weight in K-pop. Fans often collect multiple editions of the same project. Opening the pre-sale on day one keeps collectors active from the start.
No details on formats, variants, or shipping timelines have been shared yet. What’s live right now is the song, the video, and the pre-order page.
