It would have been practically illegal for Miley Cyrus to host a New Year’s Eve special without performing a cover or two. During her recent evening on NBC featuring headline machine Pete Davidson, the singer performed both new and old material, including a revisit of “Jolene,” originally sung by Dolly Parton, who is, quite casually, her godmother.
Cyrus first covered the country song for a 25 Years of Dollywood special in 2010, but it was her intimate rendition for her YouTube channel two years later that went viral. “Jolene” has since become a staple of Cyrus’s set, and she’s performed it at all sorts of music festivals and award shows. For her latest performance, Cyrus enlisted her sister, Noah Cyrus, and gave it a bigger sound. Enjoy it above.
