Hungry Gators Target Inmates and Guards in The Flood Trailer

Saban Films has released the official trailer for the alligator horror movie The Flood. Starring Casper Van Dien, Nicky Whelan, and Louis Mandylor, The Flood is a story about prisoners and security guards working together to survive when they seek shelter in a jail that’s been overrun with rising waters and hungry gators. The film hits theaters, digital, and on demand outlets on July 14, and you can get an early look now by watching the new trailer below.

The film looks like a fun time for fans of eco-horror, and in particular, gator-based horror films. The official synopsis for The Flood is as follows:

“After a massive hurricane floods Louisiana, it unleashes a threat even deadlier than the rising water level: a relentless horde of giant hungry alligators. When a group of in-transit prisoners and their security guards seek shelter in a local prison, they become prey for the flesh-eating attackers. To survive, the prisoners and guards must fight together, in this action-thriller packed with slithery scares and jaw-clenching suspense.”

Brandon Slagle directs The Flood. It is written by Chad Law and Josh Ridgway. Along with Casper Van Dien, Nicky Whelan, and Louis Mandylor, The Flood stars Kim Delonghi, Devanny Pinn, Ryan Francis, Eoin O’Brien, Randall J. Bacon, and Randy Wayne.

While the film is not without its suspense, the goal with The Flood was for the viewers to have a fun time watching the film. Slagle said as much in a statement addressing the film, describing his intentions of having it make adult viewers feel “like a kid sneaking into an R-rated Sunday matinee.”

“I will cut right to the chase with this one, no boring, over-thought, bordering-on-pretentious literary quotes or elitist film theory references. This movie is meant for one thing and one thing only – for the AUDIENCE TO HAVE A GREAT TIME AT THE MOVIES,” Slagle said. “There’s no agenda here. There’s no deeper meaning. It’s far from politically correct, the way mom used to make them. It’s a rip-roaring, foul-mouthed, down-and-dirty ride.”

Slagle also spoke about how, along with the screenwriters, he shared an appreciation for these kinds of films from the 80s and 90s. He further teases that the best way to enjoy The Flood is not to take it too seriously, and instead of heading into this one with your film critic’s hat on, treat it more like an old-school popcorn flick.

“We all grew up on brawny Arnold Schwarzenegger actioners, the movies you’d see late night on the USA channel, or the output from the fondly remembered Cannon films,” he said. “The characters are essentially archetypes–they are not meant to change the world or alter your stance on any various social issues. No, they’re here to take you on the ride with them. They’re here to make your bad day at work have a happy ending.”

The Flood will be released in theaters, on demand, and digital on July 14, 2023, via Saban Films.
