Action movie icon Jason Statham knows what he’s good at, and damn if he isn’t one of the best to ever do it, with the charismatic star able to bring any middling action fare at least somewhat to life using his particular set of skills. This is never truer than with the 2013 crime thriller Parker, which adapts one of the novels by the late Donald Westlake, and is all set to stream for free.
While the movie itself was met with mixed reviews at the time, the presence of The Stath never fails to impress, with The Beekeeper star bringing his usual gritty magnetism to the role of a professional thief who finds himself double-crossed and left for dead. Directed by Taylor Hackford and written by John J. McLaughlin, Parker sees Jason Statham team-up with Jennifer Lopez while butting (bald) head with (bald) head against The Shield star Michael Chiklis. Parker is all set to stream for free on Tubi from December 1, and you can check out the synopsis below.
“Daring, ruthless and meticulous, Parker (Jason Statham) is one of the most successful thieves in the business. But when his latest robbery turns deadly because of a careless crew member, he declines to join crime boss Melander (Michael Chiklis) and his gang for another heist. The crooks turn on Parker and leave him for dead. Parker survives and vows vengeance, tracing the gang to Palm Beach. There, he joins forces with an unlikely ally (Jennifer Lopez) to hijack the gang’s next big score.”
‘Parker’ Proves Once Again That The Stath Can Lift Even the Most Middling Action Outing
While Parker will never be held up high alongside the likes of The Beekeeper, The Transporter, Wrath of Man, or his Fast and Furious efforts by Statham fans, the movie is still another example of how truly game the actor is when it comes to giving audiences action movie delights. The movie was met with mixed reviews upon release, landing 41% from critics and 48% from audiences, respectively, on Rotten Tomatoes. Nevertheless, there are certainly worse uses of your time than watching The Stath enact revenge.
Related Long-Awaited Jason Statham Action Sequel Finally Gets Promising Update From Writer
We’ve been waiting patiently for this Jason Statham franchise to return.
Jason Statham shows no signs of slowing down when it comes to bringing the action. He will reunite with director David Ayer and writer Sylvester Stallone for next year’s Levon’s Trade, which is based on the 2014 novel of the same name by Chuck Dixon, and follows Statham as Levon Cade, a former counter-terrorism expert who leaves his violent career behind to work in construction and be a good father. But, when a local girl goes missing, Levon is asked to return to his skills and hunt for her.
Statham will also take the lead in Plane director Jean-François Richet’s Mutiny, which finds him on the run after his billionaire industrialist boss is murdered, and will hopefully return as the mysterious Adam Clay in a sequel to this year’s The Beekeeper.
