Jennifer Lawrence “Nervous” Fans Will Think New Movie Is a ‘Hunger Games’ & ‘Twilight’ Crossover

Jennifer Lawrence, the star of the upcoming drama Die My Love, says that fans may be expecting an exciting crossover that will definitely not happen. Lawrence led the young adult action franchise The Hunger Games, while her co-star Robert Pattinson rose to stardom after playing Edward in the Twilight series. Naturally, seeing them together on the big screen is huge for those who have followed their careers, and Lawrence feels “very nervous” that audiences may confuse their on-screen relationship with a mashup between their two highly successful franchises.

The Academy Award-winning actor recently appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote the movie, which releases on Friday, November 7. The film by Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin) puts Lawrence opposite Pattinson for a tense story about a woman facing depression and the ensuing breakdown that occurs alongside her husband. No, this doesn’t exactly sound like a dreamy encounter between Katniss Everdeen and Edward Cullen.

Fallon says that he saw “the internet’s going crazy that Katniss and Edward are in a movie together,” and though Fallon and the audience cheer in excitement, Lawrence quickly reacts, saying people will definitely be disappointed by what’s actually coming:

“I’m very nervous that people are going to sprint to the theater thinking it’s like Katniss and Edward fanfic, and it’s not. It’s like, a very idiosyncratic, like poetic, work of art.

“It’s great, but if you’re expecting fanfic, you’re going to be really disappointed. I’m just afraid it’s going to come out and everybody’s going to be mad at me.”

Jennifer Lawrence on Working With an Intimacy Coordinator on ‘Die My Love’: “We Did Not Have One”

Die My Love presents Jennifer Lawrence’s Grace and Robert Pattinson’s Jackson as a couple struggling to embrace their new life as parents, just as they move from the city to a small town. Grace develops postpartum depression, and her husband inevitably spirals downward with her. It is a role that required Lawrence to get intimate with her on-screen partner. They even had to shoot sex scenes, which are somewhat controversial in today’s industry.

Appearing on the Las Culturistas podcast, hosted by Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang, Lawrence revealed that they did not have an intimacy coordinator to shoot these scenes, because they simply didn’t need one:

“We did not have one or maybe we did, but we didn’t really… I felt really safe with him. He’s not pervy and he’s very in love with Suki [Waterhouse]. We mostly were talking about our kids and relationships, so there wasn’t any weird, like, ‘Does he think I like him?’

“If there was a little bit of that, I would probably have an intimacy coordinator. A lot of male actors get offended if you don’t want to f*ck them, and then the punishment starts. But he was not like that, for the record.”

She also said how they formed a bond on set by doing a different kind of bonding exercise: “We did dance lessons together, which was like team-building exercise. In the end, it ended up being more helpful just for choreography of sex scenes and fighting scenes.”
