Rachel Zegler is all set to dazzle fans this weekend as the titular Snow White in Disney’s live-action remake of their classic animated film, but had it not been for Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg, she may not have landed the role at all. Zegler stars in the latest Disney adaptation alongside Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen, and while early reviews have showered praise upon the film, it’s only expected to bring in $48–58 million in its opening weekend, which is a far cry from its $250 million budget.
Appearing on Jimmy Kimmel Live! earlier this week (seen below), Zegler revealed that it was Spielberg who recommended her to Disney and Snow White director Marc Webb after she appeared in his 2021 adaptation of West Side Story. “I actually got a really glowing recommendation from Steven Spielberg,” she told Kimmel, adding that the director may have secretly told her she got the part before Disney made it official:
“I also got a text from Steven kind of alluding to the fact that I had gotten the part before I found out. I wished him a Happy Father’s Day, as one does, and he texted me a bunch of apple emojis as a response. He was giving Taylor Swift Easter eggs about my casting.”
More to come…
