Sigourney Weaver, the star of franchises like Alien and Ghostbusters, joined another blockbuster franchise last yer, and you will never guess the reason why she decided to do it. Star Wars may be the most important film franchise of all time, but Weaver made her decision after she knew she would appear on-screen with one of the most beloved characters: Grogu, a.k.a. Baby Yoda.
Weaver is starring in the upcoming film The Mandalorian & Grogu, which is set to continue the adventures of the lonesome bounty hunter Din Djarin and his partner Grogu as they escape Imperial forces. The film is based on the TV spin-off The Mandalorian, which has been successful enough for Disney to greenlight a feature film that will follow the events that transpired after the show’s three seasons.
The actor expressed her excitement about joining the Star Wars universe when she spoke to GamesRadar+, and even confirmed why she ultimately decided to hop in. It was all because of the cute and Force-sensitive child named Grogu that Weaver signed up for the movie, regardless of her lack of motivation to participate in another franchise:
“I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie. And he’s a little badass too. It’s going to be wonderful for people to see what Grogu is up to now because he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series.
I admire [Star Wars], but I don’t sit around wishing I was in another franchise, because I’ve been so lucky to be in some wonderful ones. But at the time, when I was offered it, I was delighted. I’m a great fan of Jon Favreau. I was already a great fan of The Mandalorian.”
Weaver’s character still remains a mystery. She didn’t confirm the rumor of her playing a New Republic figure, but at least she shared the following: “I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission to the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens.”

There might be few details about the upcoming film, but fans couldn’t be more excited about the next Mando and Grogu adventure.
The movie is one of the survivors of Disney’s questionable management of the Star Wars franchise. While not many fans would agree that another movie is necessary, the reality is that what the House of Mouse has done with the multiple TV shows is polarizing. Some haven’t been acclaimed by fans and critics and a few were ultimately sent to the trash bin as weak attempts to revive the franchise from a different perspective. The Mandalorian & Grogu was possible because the TV show was good, and it touched a nerve with fans. But the fact that this will be the first Star Wars film to be released in theaters since The Rise of Skywalker is uncanny.
