Hogwarts Legacy developers have confirmed official mod support is finally coming to the game.
On January 30, an official creator kit will be added to Hogwarts Legacy and a selection of existing mods will be added to the game’s main menu. According to developers, the new kit will support “modding new quests, dungeons and character enhancements such as cosmetics and skins. The mods can then be submitted through the CurseForge platform to be published in the game.”
The kit will offer users “simplified tools” to make modding as easy as possible. “Modding is the next stage of Hogwarts Legacy and we’re excited to put it in the hands of our community to see what you create,” said community manager Chandler Wood. Developers have also been working with creators to ensure a number of mods will be available day one.
The Hogwarts Legacy creator kit will be available for PC players via the Epic Games Store and is the first time any Warner Bros. game has included official mod support. “The keys to the castle are now in the hands of the Community. It’s time to conjure up a whole new Hogwarts and live the unwritten like never before,” teased the trailer.
Of course, a number of unofficial mods have already been made for Hogwarts Legacy. One that transforms hippogryphs into dragons has been downloaded over 62,000 on Nexusmods while the Shrek Broom mod replaces your flying broom with a giant green ogre. Another replaces the Hogwarts Express with Thomas The Tank Engine.
Ever wanted to ride a vacuum instead of a broom? Take a swing instead of a swish and flick? Test your mettle in a custom dungeon created by your fellow Community members? It’s also been confirmed Hogwarts Legacy has sold over 30million copies since its launch in 2023. In November, Warner Bros. announced that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is the studio’s highest priority and will tie into HBO’s Harry Potter remake. It’s expected the game will release in 2026 alongside the new show.
“We have known for some time that fans are looking for more things in this world, and so we’re spending a lot of time thinking about that,” president of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment David Haddad explained. “Our insights tell us that there are not huge distinctions between a younger version of a fan and an older version of a fan. They’re just deep ‘Harry Potter’ fans, and we try to build authentic experiences to delight them.”
In other news, industry experts have backed up rumours that Grand Theft Auto 6 could cost $100, but said “player backlash would be huge” if Rockstar did charge that much for the base game.
