Some Nintendo fans claim they’ve been “let down” by today’s Switch Direct, which didn’t include news on the long-awaited Hollow Knight: Silksong or the rumoured Legend Of Zelda remakes.
Earlier this year, Nintendo confirmed a Switch 2 Direct would be taking place April 2 following a brief, hardware-focused teaser trailer that was shared in January. Fans are expecting next week’s broadcast to reveal the lineup of games that will be available on the Switch 2 when it launches, as well as details about price and pre-orders.
However yesterday (March 26) Nintendo announced a surprise Direct for today (March 27) that would focus on the original Switch.
The 35-minute video revealed a number of games including a dark Metroidvania take on Pac-Man (Shadow Labyrinth, due out July 18), a HD remake of the first two Dragon Quest games and a game where you serve Disney baddies a variety of snacks (Disney Villains Cursed Cafe, which is out later today).
Nintendo also confirmed the rhythm game Rift Of The Necrodancer will be released later today while Rhythm Heaven Groove will launch at some point in 2026. The Direct also gave fans a better look at Metroid Prime 4, which is due for release at some point this year, while more details about battling in Pokemon Legends Z-A were also shared.
But some fans feel “let down” by the lack of big reveals. Remakes of The Legend Of Zelda: Twilight Princess and The Wind Waker have been rumoured since 2022, but neither of those projects have been confirmed by Nintendo. Hollow Knight: Silksong fans were also expecting news on the long-awaited sequel after it was originally due to be released in 2023, but once again they’ve been left in the dark.
“Shit, I really thought today was the day for Wind Waker and/or Twilight Princess ports,” one fan wrote on Reddit. “Probably the worst Direct I’ve ever watched if I’m honest,” said another. “Thank god there’s the Switch 2 direct next week cuz boy, this one was dry,” added a third.
“Well, I don’t know what I was expecting for that Nintendo Direct, but this was DISAPPOINTING as fuck,” another fan wrote on X. “Worst Direct ever. I mean, yes, we got more Metroid Prime 4 and Pokemon Legends Z-A news, but the rest was pure garbage.”
Last year, Nintendo confirmed gamers would be able to play their Switch games on the Switch 2. Bosses have also said the new console would be “affordable” and the company had taken a number of measures to prevent scalping.
Next week’s Switch 2 Direct takes place at 2pm BST on April 2 and will be available to watch via Nintendo’s YouTube channel.
In other news, the epic soundtrack to Assassin’s Creed Shadows has been given a lo-fi reimagining.
