The NBA is suspending New Orleans Pelicans guard Jose Alvarado for two games for his on-court fight with Phoenix Suns center Mark Williams during Saturday’s matchup, executive vice president and head of basketball operations James Jones announced Sunday.
Williams is also suspended one game for the scuffle.
Alvarado and Williams were assessed technical fouls and tossed in the third quarter of the Suns’ 123-114 victory over the Pelicans. The Suns big man shoved Alvarado from behind and a skirmish between the two players immediately followed.
Alvarado’s suspension will cost him $62,069, while Williams is set to lose $36,072, according to ESPN’s Bobby Marks.
Alvarado will miss upcoming matchups against the New York Knicks and Chicago Bulls.
The backup floor general is averaging 8.3 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.7 boards across 32 appearances this season.
Meanwhile, Williams is sitting out Monday’s contest against the Washington Wizards. He’s been a key part to the Suns’ solid start, tallying 13.1 points and 8.2 boards per contest.
