Watson Season 2 Episode 16 picked up a bunch of dropped threads, long after they stopped making sense.
Better late than never, but it made me feel as if I were in a time loop, with Brenda suddenly back and Beck’s various tricks continuing as if there hadn’t been a long break since they began.
Still, Watson Season 2 Episode 16 included one of its most interesting cases, even if the story did include this Sherlock-as-hallucination nonsense… and a shock ending that was entirely unnecessary.

The Case Was The Best Part of Watson Season 2 Episode 16
I love it when Watson remembers it’s supposed to be about medical mysteries, and the story of these two little girls who couldn’t go out in the sun was one of the better ones.
This story kept me guessing from beginning to end. At first, I wasn’t even sure that Abby existed, given that Cora kept repeating exactly what her mother said, and nobody seemed to have any idea where her sister was.
I was surprised that the doctors assumed that her mother’s insistence that Cora couldn’t go out in the sun was simply a paranoid delusion.
Although it is as rare as Watson Season 2 Episode 16 claimed, there are people who are allergic to the sun or otherwise react badly to it, and the doctors should have considered this possibility.

Nevertheless, the fact that Cora couldn’t tolerate sunlight made it unclear what was going on with her mother — was she keeping the girls inside because she was abusive, or was she a mother who was trying to manage a rare medical condition?
Of course, once we found out that Abby did exist and that Shelly was hiding her for an unknown reason, all bets were off.
That couldn’t completely rule out a genetic condition, although two girls having the same rare condition seemed less likely.

I suppose the emphasis on how Shelly grew her own vegetables for the girls was a clue that their overconsumption of celery was to blame for their condition, but I didn’t pick up on that.
Watson wouldn’t have either if Brenda hadn’t mentioned something about green juice before bed, which felt somewhat like cheating. But I can’t complain too much when the solution worked perfectly.

I could have done without Shelly dressing up as a nurse to try to steal Cora from the hospital, although I’m glad that Watson realized immediately what was going on.
That particular trope is a favorite on soap operas like Days of Our Lives, and it’s incredibly unrealistic. Thankfully, the writers of Watson Season 2 Episode 16 knew better and let Shelly get caught within seconds.
The Ingrid and Brenda Stuff Would Have Made More Sense Several Episodes Ago
Maybe I’m remembering wrong, but after Brenda’s first appearance, I thought Shinwell was back… only for him to still be on a wild goose chase now, looking for Holmes somewhere else.
That’s more forgivable than what’s going on with Ingrid, which isn’t psychologically consistent because of the gap between beats in this story.

Although Ingrid was upset to be losing her therapist, it seemed like she had started working with the new person — or at least, she was more or less stable.
She was so much so that I had wondered what had happened to the story about her becoming dysregulated because of losing her therapist.
I guess I got my answer on Watson Season 2 Episode 16, but it felt like traveling in time because it didn’t correspond with who Ingrid has been during the last few episodes.

She was sarcastic and insensitive, and drifted back toward Beck, flirting with the idea of shading her statement in exchange for Beck letting her be the one to have the therapy group.
This all would have made more sense if we didn’t have five episodes of Ingrid acting far more stable after Beck’s devastating blow on Watson Season 2 Episode 11.

At least her decision to visit Beck paid off when she recognized the photo of Sasha’s “mother.” This should be interesting!
I never particularly liked this subplot, and Watson certainly took long enough getting back to it, but it’s heating up now, and I’m hoping for a decent climax.
I’m Sorry, But I Can’t With This Sherlock As A Hallucination Story
It simply makes no sense. Was Holmes ever real, or is his resurrection fake?
And how did Watson come home to Holmes having made him dinner if Holmes isn’t a separate entity?

Leaving the gaps in logic aside, the Holmes subplot on Watson Season 2 Episode 16 was annoying.
Watson kept “seeing” Holmes and talking aloud to him, making other people think he was talking to them, and for no apparent reason, Holmes’ appearance kept making the lights flicker on and off.
That made him seem more like a ghost than a hallucination. In any case, Watson arguing with Holmes about whether Holmes would disappear when he took his meds was ridiculous. and took up too much time.
Not to mention that Holmes apparently caused Watson to go over an embankment trying to avoid a deer in the road by appearing in the rearview mirror and bothering him.
I knew something bad was going to happen as soon as Watson and Laila were shown driving — scenes in cars rarely go well — but this shock ending was entirely unnecessary, especially since there are several episodes left, making it unlikely that Watson will die.
