North Carolina released a statement Friday denying that head coach Bill Belichick’s girlfriend, Jordon Hudson, isn’t welcome at the school’s football facilities.
“While Jordon Hudson is not an employee at the University of Carolina Athletics, she is welcome to the Carolina Football facilities,” the statement reads, according to Chris Vannini of The Athletic. “Jordon will continue to manage all activities related to Coach Belichick’s personal brand outside of his responsibilities for Carolina Football and the university.”
The statement follows a report from Pablo Torre of the “Pablo Torre Finds Out” podcast, which cited multiple sources claiming that North Carolina banned Hudson from its football facilities. According to Torre, the decision was made last week by members of the Tar Heels’ athletic department, who hired Belichick as head coach earlier this year.
Torre later addressed North Carolina’s statement, saying he stands by his report.
“UNC can now choose to describe or change its position on Jordon Hudson’s involvement however it wishes, following the publication of our episode,” Torre wrote Friday on social media. “We stand by the specific reporting in our episode, which came from the highest levels of the football program.”
Belichick’s relationship with the 24-year-old Hudson has been a hot topic, but it stole headlines last week after a viral clip from a CBS interview surfaced. In the segment, Hudson interjected as Belichick was asked about their relationship during an interview to promote the 73-year-old’s upcoming book on his coaching life.
“We’re not talking about this,” Hudson interrupted before Belichick could respond after CBS’ Tony Dokoupil asked how they met.
Belichick later released a statement calling it a “false narrative” that Hudson tried to control the interview. The six-time Super Bowl champion also said he initially agreed that promotional interviews would focus only on the book’s contents. CBS addressed Belichick’s remarks by stating that the coach’s publisher knew the conversation would have “no limitations.”
Hudson has also been seen talking with Belichick at North Carolina’s football practice on several occasions, including the Tar Heels’ open practice to the public in April.
