10 Famous Children of Horror Movie Icons

Horror icons often develop something of a cult following, remaining in the public consciousness for decades even after they retire. It might come as no surprise that some horror icons have had children who went on to be famous in their own right. The term “nepo baby” is thrown around Hollywood a lot these days, referring to the famous children of famous parents.

A fair number of horror movie legends have had children who then followed their parents into Hollywood or the arts. It’s also worth noting how many of those celebrity children went on to take up the horror mantle. For more than a few Hollywood dynasties, horror is a family business.

Here are 10 household names who were conceived by horror movie icons.

Maya Hawke

Daughter of Actor Ethan Hawke

Maya Hawk is one of two children shared by actors Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman. Born in 1998, Maya got her start as a model and made her acting debut as Jo March in the 2017 miniseries Little Women. In 2019, she had a small role in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, but she became a household name thanks to her role on Stranger Things. She joined the cast during Season Three as Robin Buckley, who worked at an ice cream shop with fellow fan-favorite character, Steve Harrington (Joe Keery).

Maya’s mother has starred in a number of Quentin Tarantino films, including Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill. Her father, however, is the one best known for horror roles. Ethan Hawke has appeared in a number of prominent horror films, the most iconic of which are Sinister in 2012 and The Purge in 2013. Sinister is often considered by horror fans to be one of the most chilling movies of all time, while The Purge has gone on to produce a flourishing horror franchise.

While contemporary audiences might know Johnny Depp best from his role as Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, he has spent years collaborating with legendary director Tim Burton. Depp has starred in Burton’s adaptations of Sweeney Todd, Alice in Wonderland, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and horror classic Sleepy Hollow, as well as Burton originals like Edward Scissorhands and Corpse Bride. Depp made his screen debut in Wes Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street, where he played Nancy’s boyfriend, Glen.
