When one Yellowstone series gets buried in the dirt, another inevitably sprouts in its place with even more tangled family roots. Look no further than the untitled Beth and Rip Wheeler spin-off, the latest Taylor Sheridan creation currently being developed by Paramount+. In December 2024, Deadline confirmed that Yellowstone actors Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser will reprise their roles as Beth and Rip Wheeler in the upcoming continuation of the Dutton family’s American legacy.
While there was some confusion about Beth and Rip starring in a potential sixth season of Yellowstone, it appears those plans have been scrapped in favor of an official spin-off. Hauser and Reilly negotiated contracts with Paramount for six months, with details finally emerging about the latest chapter in the Dutton family saga. From the premise and release date to the characters and actors involved, here are all the pertinent details about the next Yellowstone spin-off.
Who Are Beth & Rip Wheeler?
Paramount+
Beth and Rip Wheeler are among the most compelling Yellowstone characters. Beth Dutton was John’s only daughter, raised with a high education and whipsmart business acumen. As such, Beth serves as the ranch’s financier, using her wits and wiles to manipulate others for her family’s gain. However, Beth detests her ambitious and immoral adoptive brother, Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley), who climbs the social ladder by any means necessary, including family betrayal.
Rip Wheeler is a hardened rancher who was taken in by John Dutton as a youngster and raised as his own. Scarred from his past, Rip witnessed his father murder his mother and brother in cold blood. Afterward, Rip killed his father in retaliation and ran away. John adopted Rip and empowered him as a lead rancher and John’s second-in-command. As such, it’s easy to see why Rip remains loyal to John and often sides with him and Beth and opposes Jamie.
Without spoiling the shocking and tragic Yellowstone finale, which ends in lethal bloodshed involving the bitter half-blood feud between Beth and Jamie, Beth and Rip are relatable and rootable characters that Paramount decided fans should see more of. Fortunately, Reilly and Hauser have signed on for more Dutton family drama.

Every ‘Yellowstone’ Series and Spin-off Currently in Development
‘Yellowstone’ might have ended, but it has plenty of spinoffs on the way.
The Beth & Rip Wheeler Spin-off’s Premise and Cast
While Paramount has yet to issue an official synopsis, the Beth/Rip Wheeler spin-off will undoubtedly continue its story following the tragic Yellowstone ending. With Hauser and Reilly agreeing to star in the spin-off, fans can expect a sequel rather than a prequel played by younger actors. Whether the show will pick up immediately after Yellowstone’s conclusion or years later in the couple’s lifetime is unknown.
Yellowstone ended with Beth purchasing a cattle farm in Dillon, Montana, where she took Rip and their adopted son, Carter (Finn Little). The popular TV western’s spin-off will surely pick up in the new location, leaving the Dutton Family Ranch near Yellowstone behind as Beth, Rip, and Carter begin life anew and figure out their next chapter.
Although no additional actors have been confirmed to star, fans should take solace in knowing Hauser and Reilly will take center stage. Rip invited fan-favorite character Lloyd (Forrie J. Smith) to join them in Dillon at the end of Yellowstone, but he declined, meaning fans are unlikely to see him in the new spin-off.

‘1944’: Everything We Know About the ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff
Taylor Sheridan’s ‘Yellowstone’ universe continues to expand, and now we’re headed for 1944 and WWII.
Regardless, the future series will touch on the past. According to Yellowstone executive producer Christina Alexandra Voros (via Variety):
“I think this last batch of episodes leads us to the end of an era. It’s impossible to talk about it in any detail without tipping my hat towards things to come. But I think Taylor [Sheridan] has managed to — and I’m really not sure how he’s done it, I think it’s sort of masterful — bring the ending to something that feels both shocking and fated at the same time. You need to get to the end of the story to fully understand everything that has come before.”
