The trailer for the latest Final Destination film has become the second most viewed horror film of all time, breaking a 24-hour record set by 28 Years Later.
The new preview for Final Destination Bloodlines, which follows a family escaping various horrific fates after their grandmother cheated death years ago, launched March 25, ahead of the film’s May 14 UK release.
According to a report by Deadline, the grizzly clip achieved 178.7million views in 24 hours across all platforms worldwide, second only to 2017’s IT in terms of viewership, and surpassing the total achieved by 28 Years Later in the same time period.
Fans will have one last chance to see Tony Todd as William Bludworth, the sinister funeral director who informs future victims of the “rules” of death. This will mark his fourth appearance as the character in the six-film series, having also made a voice cameo in Final Destination 3.
Todd passed away last November, aged 69, with his cause of death undisclosed. Final Destination Bloodlines will be his final screen role. Director Jordan Peele, who produced the 2021 reboot of Candyman starring Todd, praised him as groundbreaking figure in the horror genre.
“I was a horror fan as a kid, but we didn’t have a Black Freddy Krueger or a Black Jason Voorhees,” Peele said shortly after his death. “Even though there are many examples of Black people in horror, this one felt particularly badass”.
Voice actor Troy Baker also paid tribute, writing: “He was a fierce scene partner. Only cared about the work, the character…the story. I love you, man. You were a giant in every way. And I was honoured to be your friend”.
Final Destination Bloodlines was announced last December, and its release date comes 14 years after the previous instalment, Final Destination 5.
