First Official Game of Thrones Convention Is Coming in 2022

As many fans prepare to return to Westeros with House of the Dragon, Game of Thrones is getting its own official convention ahead of the prequel show’s launch. The event will be a collaboration between Warner Bros. and Creation Entertainment, the team behind many other TV based events such as Stranger Con, Lucifer and Supernatural Conventions and The 55 Year Mission Star Trek convention. The Game of Thrones Official Fan Convention is the first officially licensed event based on the popular franchise, and the inaugural convention will take place February 18th-20th, 2022 at the Rio Hotel & Suites Convention Centre in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As you would expect, the event promises a whole host of special guests, autograph signing opportunities, cosplay, exclusive merchandise and all star panels there to discuss the show in depth with the many fans who will likely be in attendance if everything goes to plan. Everything about the event, including on-sale dates and pricing can be found at the official website.

Game of Thrones is a cultural phenomenon with an incredible fanbase, and we are thrilled to be celebrating both with the first official Game of Thrones fan convention,” said Peter van Roden, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros. Themed Entertainment. “This is an exciting initiative, growing one of our beloved global franchises and allowing fans to become even more immersed in the world of Westeros and beyond. This will be a truly unforgettable experience that loyal and new fans alike will love and enjoy.”

“Our goal is to provide a grand celebration of all things Game of Thrones, a non-stop celebration for our fellow fans,” added Erin Ferries, SVP of Licensing and Business Development for Creation Entertainment. “The uniquely dynamic universe of Game of Thrones and its tremendous fans allow us an unprecedented opportunity to bring innovative entertainment to our audiences.”

House of the Dragon is the first of several planned spin-off shows coming to HBO in the future and began filming earlier this year as the main Game of Thrones series celebrated its Iron Anniversary of ten years since its premiere episode back in April 2011. While there were many fans who were not entirely impressed with how the last season of the show panned out, it was not enough to stop the franchise rolling on with a number of planned new project. While many have since fallen by the wayside, there are still a handful moving forward, with House of The Dragon, based on George R.R. Martin’s book Fire & Blood.

The series is set three centuries before Game of Thrones, a time when Targaryen’s ruled Westeros. The show enlists a number of big names and looks to many everyone forget about exactly how the Targaryen story ended in Game of Thrones. House of the Dragon stars Paddy Considine as King Viserys Targaryen, Olivia Cooke as Alicent Hightower, Matt Smith as Prince Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Rhys Ifans as Otto Hightower, Milly Alcock as Young Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen, Steve Toussaint as Lord Corlys Velaryon, “The Sea Snake,” Eve Best as Princess Rhaenys Velaryon, Fabien Frankel as Ser Criston Cole, Emily Carey as Young Alicent Hightower, and Sonoya Mizuno as Mysaria. The new series will arrive on HBO and HOB Max next year.
