Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon is currently in its second season, and continues to earn strong reviews from both critics and fans. However, don’t expect to get a review from Iwan Rheon, who played the infamous, sausage-waving villain Ramsay Bolton on the show. He has yet to watch House of the Dragon, although he has a pretty good reason why. In an interview with ComicBook.com, Rheon said he hasn’t watched the prequel, but he does have a legitimate excuse. He has simply been busy as of late, including filming Peacock’s Those About to Die, an event series set in ancient Rome and starring Anthony Hopkins, which premieres on July 18th. However, he does plan to watch it at some point…
“I haven’t seen it, no. But not because of any particular reason. I will watch it, I’m sure, at some point. I just probably haven’t quite had the time or whatever. But yeah, I’ll give it a watch. I hear it’s very, very good.”
Taking place about 172 years before the events of Game of Thrones, House of the Dragon tells the tale of the rise of the Targaryens, the only family of dragonlords to survive the Doom of Valyria. The popular HBO spinoff show first starred Milly Alcock and Emily Carey as Rhaenyra Targaryen and Alicent Hightower before they were replaced by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke, who play the older versions of the characters. Also starring in the series is Matt Smith (Prince Daemon Targaryen) and Paddy Considine as Rhaenyra’s father, King Viserys Targaryen.

Rheon played Ramsay Bolton in 20 episodes of the hit HBO series, becoming well known as being the despicable rogue lord who took over Winterfell, married and tortured Sansa Stark, and infamously castrated Theon Greyjoy (Alfie Allen). That led to the well-known scene in which Ramsay mocks Theon with a sausage, which went viral among fans of the show. Ramsay would eventually get his comeuppance in an equally violent and disturbing manner. The Welsh actor earned his role on Game of Thrones after auditioning for the role of Jon Snow. Although he lost the role to Kit Harington, producers remembered him and cast him as Ramsay Bolton in the third season.
The Mother of Dragons Cannot Bring Herself to Watch the Prequel Series
Rheon isn’t the only Game of Thrones actor who hasn’t taken in episodes of the new series. Emilia Clarke, who played Daenerys Targaryen in all eight seasons of the show, still can’t bring herself to watch, although she supports the actors and series in general. She told People:
“I still can’t. I feel so content and happy with what my experience was, that I think watching the new one would just feel so odd. I really do fully support the entire thing and everyone who’s made it, and it’s beautiful how successful it’s been. It’s absolutely amazing.”

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin provided his seal of approval, using his personal blog to comment on the show. Recently, he raved over the first two episodes of season two, saying:
“What a great way to start the season. The directing was superb. And I cannot say enough about the acting.”
