Henry Cavill Trends Following Peacemaker Finale With Fans Calling for Superman to Return

SPOILERS for Peacemaker finale to follow. Following the finale of DC series Peacemaker, which featured a particularly exciting cameo from a certain team of superheroes, Justice League star Henry Cavill is trending with fans calling for his return as Superman. The final episode of Peacemaker’s first season, titled “It’s Cow or Never,” revealed a silhouetted version of the Justice League, including what appears to be Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel seen floating alongside his costumed colleagues.

This brief appearance from Superman, which was sadly not actually played by Henry Cavill, has sparked fans of Cavill’s iteration of the DC legend to take to social media and call for the actor and character to return in a Man of Steel sequel.

Henry Cavill first appeared back in 2013’s Man of Steel. Introducing audiences to the hugely divisive Snyder-Verse, Cavill returned in 2016’s Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice before uniting with the likes of Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Well, now that Cavill’s Superman has been teased, Zack Snyder fans are once again asking that the director be allowed to finish what he started.

For some however, the appearance has simply made them realize how short-changed Superman fans have been over the last decade or so. With many hoping and praying that someday Man of Steel will do justice to The Last Son of Krypton.

Henry Cavill Has Expressed His Desire to Return as Superman & Finish His Story Arc

Henry Cavill himself is just as desperate as fans to suit up again, with the actor expressing multiple times over the years that he would love to return as Superman and complete his story arc. “There is still a lot of storytelling for me to do as a Superman, and I would absolutely love the opportunity,” Cavill said previously. “The killing of Zod gave a reason for the character never to kill again. Superman falling to the ground and screaming afterward – I don’t think that was originally in the script, but I wanted to show the pain he had. I did far more emotional takes they didn’t choose; tears were happening. He just killed the last remaining member of his species. That’s the choice he made in that moment, and he’ll never do that again. There’s an opportunity for growth after that, to explore the psyche of Superman as a deep, seemingly invulnerable god-like being but with real feeling on the inside. As I always say, ‘The cape is still in the closet.'”

Until then, Cavill has several major projects in the pipeline, including The Witcher and Enola Holmes 2 on Netflix, the spy flick Argylle, an upcoming Highlander reboot, as well as rumors that he could join the MCU as Captain Britain.

Superman, meanwhile, is due to return to our screens courtesy of two different projects, one by J.J. Abrams and comic book writer Ta-Nehisi Coates, with the other being led by Black Panther star Michael B. Jordan.
