Summary

  • Tom Ellis, known for his role as Lucifer, stars as God in the form of a cat in Netflix’s animated series Exploding Kittens.
  • The plot revolves around an epic battle between God and the Devil, who are sent to Earth as house cats.
  • Other notable actors in the cast include Lucy Liu as Satan, and Abraham Lim, Mark Proksch and Sasheer Zamata also featuring.

Tom Ellis has already played the Devil in Lucifer, and now he is playing God, but in the form of a cat. The actor leads the cast of Netflix’s upcoming animated series Exploding Kittens, based on the popular card game of the same name.

The celebration of the most recent edition of Geeked Week, the company’s annual event that presents a long list of news about its upcoming releases, is coming to an end this weekend, and it seems that they have saved the most explosive content for the last few days.

On Saturday, Netflix shared a new batch of trailers, including a first look at their upcoming series adaptation of the famous car game Exploding Kittens, which stars Lucifer’s Tom Ellis as God in the form of a cat:

As the video teases, the plot focuses on the eternal conflict between good and evil, and their greatest representatives, God and the Devil. Both are sent to Earth to face each other in an epic battle, and it will be up to God Cat to stop the forces of evil and save humanity before it is too late. The trailer shows a lot of action, colors, and a story full of explosions, supernatural powers, and tenderness.

Check out Netflix official description for Exploding Kittens:

“The eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell reaches epic proportions when both God and the Devil are sent to Earth – in the bodies of chunky house cats.”

Tom Ellis Isn’t the Only Big Star in Exploding Kittens

Netflix

Exploding Kittens will be the first big project Ellis stars in since the ending of Lucifer back in 2021. Since then, he has only participated in one episode of Robot Chicken. But he is not the only great actor who is part of the cast of the new Netflix animated series.

Acclaimed actress Lucy Liu will join him by playing GodCat nemesis, Satan. In recent years, the Charlie’s Angels star has played two other voice roles, in Scooby-Doo and Guess Who? and Star Wars: Visions, while earlier this year she played another villain in DC’s flop Shazam! Fury of the Gods. Next year she will shine again with just her voice in Kung Fu Panda 4, where she plays Master Viper.

The Glee Project star Abraham Lim is also part of the cast, playing the role of Travis. Beyond his participation in the famous reality show, he has appeared in other series such as Faking It, How to Get Away with Murder, Charmed, The Rookie, and The Boys.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger’s Ally Maki plays another of the main characters. The actress is currently part of the cast of the animated series Hit-Monkey, so she also has plenty of experience with voice roles. Her filmography also includes The Owl House, Wrecked, and Toy Story 4.

Mark Proksch (What We Do in the Shadows), and Sasheer Zamata (The Mitchells vs. the Machines) are also part of the cast, with Shane Kosakowski and Matthew Inman serving as co-showrunners.

Exploding Kittens is coming to Netflix soon.
