Samuel L. Jackson has revealed a little more detail about the upcoming Secret Invasion series, saying it will show Nick Fury at his weak times.
Marvel
Over the last fourteen years, we have seen a lot of Nick Fury in the MCU, but in Disney+ series Secret Invasion, we are going to see more than just the enigmatic S.H.I.E.L.D agent taking on the bad guys. According to Samuel L. Jackson, the new Marvel Studios Disney+ series will dive into the private life of Fury, which aligns with the premise that this is definitely a Nick Fury story. However, he obviously won’t be alone as he is joined by Ben Mendelsohn as Talos, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Martin Freeman as Everett K. Ross and Don Cheadle as James Rhodes.
Secret Invasion will seemingly fill a gap in Fury’s timeline and will be set during the Blip, according to previous reports. This means that the series will likely reveal why Fury is off-world at the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, and why Talos is in disguise as Fury during the events of that movie. During THR’s TV Drama Actor Roundtable talk, Jackson explained more about the events of the series and how it will show Fury’s weaker side. He said:
MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY
“Well I can have a whole life as Nick Fury that’s not Nick Fury at work. You get to go home with me and see what happens with me at home or when I’m alone or when I’m not so strong or when I take off a back brace because Nick Fury’s old. Things that you can do that you can’t normally do because the character has to present this kind of front when that’s happening and that’s what the movies are for and when you get to do it in long form you get to show even superheroes have their down moments.”

Secret Invasion Has An All-Star Cast
As well as the returning franchise stars, Secret Invasion is bringing in a new wave of big names to the MCU, making it another strong entry in the MCU’s TV arm. Kingsley Ben-Adir boarded the project as the lead villain and award-winning British actress Olivia Colman is also set to play an antagonist role in the show. In addition to this, Emilia Clarke looks to add the MCU to her list of “long-running franchise” roles after her decade-long stint in Game of Thrones, and is joined by Killian Scott, Christopher McDonald and Carmen Ejogo.
Taking its lead from the comic book arc of the same name, Secret Invasion is believed to center on an invasion of Earth by Skrulls, the alien shape-shifters who were introduced in Captain Marvel as villains turned allies to the titular heroine’s story. From the details revealed so far about where the series sits in the timeline, it looks as though this infiltration of life on Earth will take place while half the world was blipped away by Thanos.
Secret Invasion was originally listed to arrive on Disney+ later this year, however with filming only coming to a close in April and no teasers of a date released so far, it seems likely that Secret Invasion will join the many shows arriving on Disney+ in 2023.
