Daryl Dixon relocated the zombie action to France, picking up on several threads hinted at way back in the earlier Walking Dead offshoot, Walking Dead: World Beyond. That show suggested that the origins of the zombie outbreak could have started in a facility in the country, while also hinting that people who potentially knew how to stop it still remained in the country. Daryl’s quest in France may not have been a direct continuation of the teases of World Beyond, but it certainly brought a different flavor to the franchise.
In Season 2, Norman Reedus will be reunited with Melissa McBride, who reprises her role as Carol after having to skip the first season due to scheduling issues. While there are very few details known about the upcoming episodes, Reedus teased another big change coming when the show moves on to Season 3 – another relocation. Speaking with American Rider about his movie The Bikeriders, Reedus commented:
[I’m] headed to Spain to shoot more [of the] Daryl Dixon spinoff.
This is not the first time the franchise has featured action located in Spain, as a special comic focusing on Jeffrey, the brother of Rick Grimes, was previously released in 2016 under the title of The Alien, detailing the zombie outbreak’s Spanish branch.
Daryl Dixon’s Relocating to Spain Suggests Bad Things Coming in Season 2
The first chapter in Daryl Dixon’s French adventure ended with the character remaining in France with Isabelle and Laurent after escaping the torment of the Pouvoir. However, the reprieve seems to be short-lived, as Season 2 will see the Pouvoir discovering where Daryl and the Nest are located, causing him and his new group to fight or flee.
Also in the mix will be Carol, who was last seen at the end of Season 1, still in the U.S. but now heading to find Daryl. It has already been revealed that the second season will put a lot of emphasis on Carol’s journey to be reunited with Daryl, and that could mean that by the end of the season they are together again but on the move due to the dangers being faced in France.
Related How Does The Daryl Dixon Show Timeline Relate to The Ones Who Live?
Fans would love cameos from Rick and Michonne from The Ones Who Live on The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, but it all hinges on timelines syncing up.
Of course, there could be another reason for the relocation, such as a new zombie threat, or the hint of something new to be discovered in Spain that could link back to a possible way of ending the zombie outbreak. Several new zombie variants were revealed during Season 1, and as is the usual way for the franchise, there will likely be more deadly undead coming in the new episodes.
All may become a little clearer when the new season of Daryl Dixon kicks off in September. In the meantime, you can catch up on Season 1 of Daryl Dixon on AMC+ ahead of the upcoming episodes.
