The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 Recap: Speed

We have a scene-by-scene breakdown of The Rookie Season 7 Episode 11 titled “Speed.”

If you’re interested in our full review of the hour, you can find it here.

We open with Miles getting a Tim Lesson as he tries to appease a citizen who feels that cops should abide by the same rules they enforce, leading to him parking the shop too far away. Then we’re hit with the title card.

Bailey explains what she’s finding from the research she’s doing on them adopting a child, and it’s sounding incredibly expensive. Something Nolan didn’t seem prepared for, but they’re still talking about starting a family. Good for them, I guess.

Chen laments that she’ll miss the money she was getting as interim T.O., but she wants to focus on being a sergeant.

Celina and Nolan are going undercover on the metro as they crack down on some metro crime, and they must be treated like undercover officers. Celina is thrilled about her first real undercover assignment and has a full backstory about being a college student.

Chen admits that she’s jealous as she wants to be undercover and do that work instead of riding with Bradford to prepare for being sergeant, but he agrees to let her call the shots. They really are doing a fascinating but perplexing role reversal with these two.

Miles is thrilled about getting to ride with Grey. He asks about securing another job because he has to pay his ex-father-in-law back for a loan he got now that he isn’t marrying.

Grey places it to the rest of the channel as they all give Miles ideas on how to get $10 grand in a few weeks. Bradford kicks things off by suggesting a felony, but he also tells Miles he should consider selling his championship ring.

Nolan asks the pregnant woman he’s riding with when she’s due, and Bradford makes fun of him until Chen reminds him that Bailey and Nolan are trying to adopt.

They identify a possible suspect on the bus, and Nolan phones it in, but then the guy gets off the bus. Chen and Bradford roll up on the guy to talk to him and arrest him for having stolen property on him.

(Disney/Mike Taing)

Another guy gets on the bus, and he has a backpack secured to his front. The man waits until the bus starts moving and then tells everyone it’s a bomb in the bag. Nolan shares the code phrase to Harper and Angela in the van.

Grey instructs them not to make any moves unless someone’s life is in immediate danger. Nolan uses his crossword puzzle to share messages with the others. The guys holding the bus hostage are brothers. They focus on trying to identify the two.

Bradford continues to use this situation to test Chen on how to run point as a sergeant.

The perpetrators make the patrons cover all the windows up with newspapers and make the pregnant lady collect all of their wallets and phones. She starts to have contractions, and Nolan tries to look after the pregnant woman.

They get a ransom call. The person wants the $100 million that they seized from Tully during The Rookie Season 7 Episode 1.

(Disney/Mike Taing)

Another guy tries to help, saying that he works with the government and can help the robbers get the money. And while he’s talking and getting too close, Celina lunges for the one guy with the gun. It goes off, shooting his brother.

Celina identified herself as a cop and reminded him if he did something to her, he’d get a life. But he threatens to bring her to hell with him if he doesn’t get the money.

Angela identifies the brothers as Joel and Toby, and Grey surmises that they might be soldiers based on how they take orders. Nolan treats the brother, but he needs a hospital. His other brother doesn’t want to go to the hospital. He gets on the phone with Grey and demands a doctor.

Grey enlists Bailey instead. Bailey rolls up in the Swat van and jumps into the bus to help treat the guy.

Harper and Angela head to the brothers’ house, and when they go to knock, they’re under fire. They figure out that it’s because of a tripwire. SWAT clears out the house and finds more bombs.

(Disney/Mike Taing)

Why can’t Harper and Angela ever know peace? Harper does make a quip about her nine lives, which is on brand.

The one brother finally agrees to let some hostages, including the pregnant lady, go in exchange for help getting his brother out so he can go to the hospital. Bailey didn’t find the man’s pulse, so he’s potentially a goner.

Nolan is still on the bus with other hostages, but Celina is out with some of the others.

They get a screengrab of someone tied to the case, and it’s the pregnant lady. She manages to disappear amid all the chaos. She was the mastermind of the whole thing.

Joel wants to talk to Grey and get an update on his brother. He hangs up when Grey tries to talk about the hostages. Grey tells Nolan that they have snipers ready and in position.

(Disney/Mike Taing)

Nolan makes his move because Joel is getting too jumpy. He jumps the guy and manages to take him down and arrest him.

Harper and Angela track down the pregnant lady, who isn’t really pregnant. She has a wallet and pulls out some kind of card that has her transferring things on the phone. She calls Monica.

She’s working with Monica. Monica has her child hostage, and she’s also expecting money. She’s shocked that the cops have caught up to her, and Monica tells her that her child’s life and her money are contingent on her staying quiet. Chen arrests her.

Chen checks in with Bradford on how her sergeant day is going, but then she gets caught up in the awkwardness of sounding flirty.

This prompts her to talk about their relationship and express that she’s not seeing anyone but is not ready to yet, something he agrees with. She also says she wants boundaries and that she still hasn’t forgiven him yet, but when she does, he can come to help her study.

(Disney/Mike Taing)

He’s pleased by that.

Wesley is pissed off that he just found out about the bomb and the machine gun house. Angela tells him that if she called every time she almost died, her battery would be dead.

Miles tells Grey that he has listed his ring on eBay and has multiple bids. He says it wasn’t as hard as he thought it would be because his ring is part of his past, but it’s not where his heart is. Policing is where his heart is, and so is barbecuing.

They both joke about being grill masters.

The “pregnant” lady’s case isn’t solid and may be thrown out. And Harper says it’s not even close to being over.

Nolan and Bailey watch Bailey’s big jump on the bus on the news. She wants footage of it.
