  • Vampire Academy Gets Canceled After One Season at Peacock

Peacock is also axing One of Us Is Lying after a two-season run.

Peacock

More shows have been put to an end almost as quickly as they began, this time at NBCUniversal’s Peacock. On Friday, Deadline revealed that the new series Vampire Academy is one of the latest shows to get canceled. It comes to a swift end after just one season, premiering on Peacock in September. Reviews were largely positive and Peacock execs were reportedly happy with the show creatively, but viewership wasn’t high enough to justify ordering a second season.

Based on the book series by Richelle Mead, Vampire Academy was developed for Peacock by Julie Plec and Marguerite MacIntyre. The series is unconnected to the 2014 film of the same name which was also an adaptation of the original books. In the show, Sisi Stringer stars as Rose Hathaway, a Dhampir guardian-in-training, alongside Daniela Nieves as a Moroi princess vampire as the two attend St Vladimir’s Academy.

The show also stars Andre Dae Kim, Anita-Joy Uwajeh, Mia McKenna-Bruce, Jonetta Kaiser, Andrew Liner, Rhian Blundell, and J. August Richards. It is executive produced by Plec and MacIntyre alongside Emily Cummins, Don Murphy, Susan Montford, Deepak Nayar, and Jillian DeFrehn.

One of Us Is Lying Has Been Axed After 2 Seasons

Peacock

It’s also revealed that One of Us Is Lying has been axed at Peacock after two seasons. The show originally premiered in 2021, scoring a renewal for season 2 by early 2022. The second season premiered in October, and as with Vampire Academy, Peacock had been happy with the series itself, but not so much with the low viewership numbers.

Developed by Erica Saleh, One of Us Is Lying is based on the novel by Karen M. McManus. It follows a group of high school students who are under suspicion for the death of a fellow student, with each one having their own possible motive. The cast featured Annalisa Cochrane, Chibuikem Uche, Marianly Tejada, Cooper van Grootel, Barrett Carnahan, Jessica McLeod, Mark McKenna, Melissa Collazo, Sara Thompson, and Alimi Ballard. Erica Saleh served as showrunner for season 2 following Dario Madrona was in that role for the first season.

Not all hope has been lost for either of these shows, however, following their respective cancelations. Plans are moving forward to shop both Vampire Academy and One of Us Is Lying elsewhere, so these stories could end up continuing if another streaming service or network ends up taking interest. For now, you can watch the two shows on Peacock.
