Better Call Saul 6th and Final Season Will Likely Premiere on AMC in Early 2022

It’s going to be about a year before Saul Goodman is back in the courtroom, as Better Call Saul will reportedly return in the first quarter of 2022. As of now, the cast and crew of the Breaking Bad prequel series are gearing up to film the sixth and final season in New Mexico in March. Earlier this month, series star Michael Mando had tweeted that he was on his way to the set, confirming that the shoot was weeks away from starting.

On a recent conference call to discuss AMC’s financial results for the last three months of 2020, AMC Networks chief operating officer Ed Carroll said Better Call Saul will likely return in the first quarter of 2022 following Covid-19 delays. This seemingly kills the hope that some fans had that the show would start airing new episodes by the end of the year. It also makes the wait between seasons about two years, as season 5 premiered in February 2020.

A Breaking Bad spinoff, Better Call Saul stars Bob Odenkirk as Jimmy McGill, an aspiring lawyer who goes on to become the smarmy attorney known as Saul Goodman. The series also stars Jonathan Banks and Giancarlo Esposito as Mike Ehrmantruat and Gus Fring, reprising their roles from the original series with Odenkirk. The show also introduced Michael Mando as Nacho Varga, Rhea Seehorn as Kim Wexler, Patrick Fabian as Howard Hamlin, Tony Dalton as Lalo Salamanca, and Michael McKean as Chuck McGill.

Each season of Better Call Saul has consistently garnered universal acclaim from critics. Because the fifth season ended on a powerful cliffhanger, there’s more excitement than ever before heading into the final season. While it will be sad for fans to see the series come to the end of its run, the good news is that season 6 will consist of 13 episodes, giving the show an extra three episodes to give the story the closure it deserves.

“I can’t wait for the fireworks, really,” Odenkirk said while speaking to Deadline this month. “Our show is a bit of a slow burn over the past few years, and [co-creators Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould] build up. There’s certainly exciting moments throughout, but towards the end, it gets super supremely intense.”

Speaking with AMC last year, Gilligan also said of the final season: “I think it’s going to be a bittersweet day when the series ends at the end of season 6, but I think it’s going to be a great season of television and I’m proud to be a part of it and couldn’t be happier to be back in the room with everybody. Peter and the writers took this thing that we came up with years ago and, man, they have just run with it.”

Better Call Saul will start filming its final episodes in March, but it sounds like we shouldn’t expect to see the new season premiere on AMC any earlier than the start of 2022. The first four seasons of the series are streaming on Netflix and the fifth season will likely be added shortly before the premiere of season 6. This news comes to us from Deadline.
