Loki Season 2 Will Be More of a Multiverse Adventure Than Doctor Strange 2

The second season of Loki looks like it could well become the kind of multiverse spanning Marvel story that many fans expected Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Kevin Feige debuted the first footage from Marvel Studios’ return of the god of mischief, which will see Tom Hiddleston’s trickster finding out exactly how much trouble he has landed himself in following the events in the finale of his first season.

Having already spent some time in a number of realities in season 1, Loki was left in an alternative reality in which Kang the Conqueror appeared to be a dominant presence and no one at the Time Variance Authority knew who he was. With Loki’s variant Sylvie having caused the changes to the timeline by killing the benign variant of Kang who created the TVA, Loki will now face a new and uncertain threat as he is pulled through time and space and will face a variant of Kang that is much more dangerous that He Who Remains.

Loki’s first season did not really have a villain as such, with Loki’s attempts to get answers about the TVA coming up against a number of characters such as Ravonna, who are maybe not a villain in the usual sense, but are certainly not out to aid Loki in any way. In next year’s return, it is clear that Kang is going to be Loki’s biggest threat, which is not surprising considering his super-villain status in the Multiverse Saga.

Loki Will Make His Return To Disney+ Next Summer

Marvel Studios

There are many Marvel projects to come before Loki makes his return in Summer 2023, but given that season one provided Marvel with their biggest Disney+ series it is safe to say that Loki’s return is one of the most anticipated shows heading to Disney+ in the next year. Tom Hiddleston’s one-time villain is certainly a fan-favorite, and there are many MCU fans who are hoping to see him reuniting with his brother Thor sometime before his time in the franchise comes to an end.

Recent images from the set of Loki have already hinted at the show taking place in a number of different time settings, including the 1970s thanks to images showing Sylvie working in a McDonalds restaurant, wearing a uniform of that era. For now, there are not many other details available about the new season, or how it will impact the coming Phase 5 and 6 storyline. With Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania being set to be the next appearance of Kang, it is unlikely we will discover more about Loki’s return until after that movie premiere’s in February.

Marvel Studios is set to release a huge number of movies and TV series in the next three years as part of the Multiverse Saga, and there is no doubt that shows like Loki will be every bit as important to the story as any of the big screen movies that will no doubt continue to dominate the box office charts. For those who are not on board with Marvel’s unprecedented level of interconnected storytelling, all of this will mean nothing, but for everyone else, the Multiverse Saga is already heading to becoming one of the only things that can match the likes of Avengers: Endgame.
