Brooklyn and Nicola Peltz Beckham may be head over heels in love (at least according to their social media pages), but when it comes to her professional judgment, Nicola isn’t blinded by rose-colored glasses.
In an Oct. 30 interview with The Times, Nicola revealed that she didn’t hesitate to cut Brooklyn from her new movie, “Lola James,” when his acting skills weren’t up to par. “I directed a film last year that I wrote when I was 23,” she said. “And Brooklyn is still mad at me, but he was like, ‘Can I be in your movie?’ And I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I would be honored, but we have to disguise you.'”
“Obviously he’s covered in tattoos and he’s British. So, he did a few parts in the background, which if you pay attention, you can find, but in one scene he’s like, ‘Can I put the mic on? I wanna say a line,'” she continued. But Nicola said she wasn’t impressed with his performance. “I started laughing so hard,” she added. “He had the most British accent ever. I ended up cutting him out! He sat there, in the editing room, he was like, ‘Did you really just cut me out while I’m sitting here?’. . . I was like, ‘Yes, I love you so much!'”
Nicola is starring in, producing, and directing the feature, which does not yet have a release date. Per Deadline, “Lola James” follows a 19-year-old girl living in middle America in the early 2000s who’s fighting to get her little brother out of a toxic home situation.
