Troy Baker, who originally played the iconic character of Joel in The Last of Us video game, has teased fans excited about the HBO adaptation. Baker’s recent comments hint that episode three of the HBO adaptation of The Last of Us will change fans’ expectations. The HBO adaptation follows a perilous journey for survivor Joel Miller (Pedro Pascal) and 14-year-old orphan Ellie (Bella Ramsey). In order to deliver Ellie to the militant revolutionary faction known as the Fireflies, Joel must make his way through a zombie-infected United States fraught with danger. As their relationship develops, Joel comes to understand just how special and significant Ellie is when he realizes her rare immunity to the fungal infection that has decimated most of the world. Though this adaptation may have been expected to stick closely to its source material, it’s clear that fans should be prepared for some truly unexpected twists in its third episode.

During an appearance on the Play Watch Listen podcast, Baker revealed that he has seen the first five episodes of The Last of Us television show and praised the series. He then hinted that the third episode will change audience expectations. Baker stars in the series as James, a member of a violent survivor group.

“I’ve seen up to episode five and, I can tell you right now, you get to episode three, you’re done. You are standing on your desk, “O, Captain! My Captain!” What it sets up in the first two episodes, it introduces you to the world if you have no idea what it is. It takes all of your expectations and just gets rid of them.”
