The Mandalorian Star Comments on the Pressure Carrie Fisher Dealt with for Star Wars

While the Star Wars franchise had more female characters to root for these days, it was initially just one woman who ruled them all. Carrie Fisher used to be the only female character in the franchise as Princess Leia. As she reigned the franchise for decades, she became an absolute icon who inspired several generations.

This might seem a good thing, but for the current Star Wars: The Mandalorian star Emily Shallow, she felt that it’s a lot of pressure. During her panel at the FAN EXPO Cleveland, the actress expressed her thoughts on the first three films having Princess Leia as the only female major character. Shallow, who portrays The Armorer in The Mandalorian, thought that Carrie Fisher leading the franchise as the only female hero is a lot to take. She shared as reported by Yahoo! Entertainment,

“I mean, what a lot of pressure that put on Carrie Fisher to have to be the one hero female for a while! I think it’s wonderful the range of women now that we have in Star Wars and the fact that it’s not that remarkable that they’re women.”

The actress was glad she got to join the franchise as an influential character that helps empower her generation. That’s one thing she loves about her character, she got to show leadership as a female figure. She shared,

“They’re just people. I really love that about The Armorer. I love that she’s in this position of leadership and she is respected and looked up to and it doesn’t seem to be anything exceptional that she’s a woman. She is this powerful spiritual leader of these people and it doesn’t seem like she’s an exception to the rule. And I love that. I love that we notice she’s a woman and then that stands out to us, but she’s just awesome.”

The Armorer’s Faceless Leadership

Although The Armorer does not appear as often as the other characters, her consistent presence since the beginning is enough. She might have just a few scenes, but the show perfectly exhibits her leadership. Not only does Mando listen to her authority, she seems to be the default leader of the Mandalorian despite joining the group late with Bo-Katan after she fled her home.

Emily Swallow is yet to show her face on the series, but she’s already a principal figure. There’s still a lot to uncover in her character and the series will slowly unfold her character’s nature as the story progresses.

The first four episodes of Star Wars: The Mandalorian’s third season are now available on Disney+.
