Dune 2’s Rebecca Ferguson Dishes on Former ‘Idiot’ Co-Star Who Made Her Cry: ‘You Can F— Off’

Summary

  • Dune: Part Two’s
Rebecca Ferguson dishes on a former “idiot” co-star who once made her cry on set.
  • Despite facing a toxic work environment, Ferguson found the courage to stand up for herself and demand respect from her insensitive co-star.
  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson reacts to Ferguson’s story on X and reveals his desire to find out who did this to her.

It’s hard to imagine a fellow creative being so cruel. Unfortunately, though, Rebecca Ferguson calls out an “idiot co-star,” who made her cry on set, while doing the press tour for Dune: Part Two. While participating in a sit-down on Josh Smith’s podcast, the actress who brings Lady Jessica to life in the sci-fi sequel dishes on a former collaborator for their outlandish behavior on set. Ferguson said (via Reign with Josh Smith):

I did a film with an absolute idiot of a co-star — doesn’t matter who it is. I’m going to try not give this away: Who it’s gonna be.

Ferguson smiles and snickers as she imagines the fans trying to unravel the mystery of who the “absolute idiot” was. Ferguson then brings up two of the most high-profile co-stars she’s shared the Silver Screen with: Hugh Jackman (The Last Showman) and Tom Cruise (Mission: Impossible films). Ferguson continued:

‘Jack? Hugh Jackman?!’ [Laughs] No, it’s not Hugh. And not Tom Cruise.

Ferguson continued:

“Anway, I’ve done many movies back in the day. But I remember, there was a moment. And this human being was being so insecure and angry because this person couldn’t get the scenes out. And I think I was so vulnerable and uncomfortable that I got screamed at. But because this person was No. 1 on a call sheet, there was no safety net for me. So, no one had my back. And I would cry walking off set.”

Rebecca Ferguson’s impressive career has certainly come a long way since the appalling incident she had to endure because of her cruel “idiot” co-star. But from that unfortunate situation, which upset the actress so much that she cried, Dune: Part Two’s Ferguson was able to find her voice and the strength to stand up for herself. Ferguson continued telling her story to host Josh Smith:

“This person would literally look at me in front of the whole crew and say, ‘You call yourself an actor? This is what I have to work with? What is this?’ And I stood there just breaking. This happens. And I remember the next day I walked on, and I said, ‘You get off my set.’ It’s the first time I’ve ever spoken [up], and I remember being so scared. And I looked at this person, and I said, ‘You can f— off. I’m gonna work towards a tennis ball. I never want to see you again.’

Ferguson continued:

“And then I remember the producers came up and said, ‘You can’t do this to number one. We have to let this person be on set.’ And I said, ‘But the person can turn around and I can act into the back [of their] head.’ And I did. And I remember thinking at the time, I was so scared — I feel it now when I’m saying it — but I thought, ‘Oh, it shouldn’t have to be that way.’

Ferguson’s film resume is extensive, so it’s hard to figure out who the “idiot” was. But the actress reveals that once she stood up for herself, she found that things began to get better on what was once a dysfunctional set. Ferguson also said:

“And I remember going to the director afterwards and saying, ‘What is happening?’ And the director said, ‘You’re right. I am not taking care of everyone else. I’m trying to fluff this person because it’s so unstable.’ And, it was great from that moment, but it took so long for me to get to that. But from that moment, I have never let myself get to a point where I’ve gone home, and I’ve [said], ‘What? Why did that happen?’

For those wanting to know who the “idiot” was, the actress was too classy to give up their name. But she did have a little fun joking around with host Josh Smith during their interview. Ferguson finished off by saying:

And the person… [laughs] And the person is… No. Also, everyone changes. You know what I mean?

Even Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who worked with Ferguson on Hercules, was moved by the actress’ story. Check out Johnson’s reacton on X, formerly Twitter, below:
