The mutants are fighting harder than ever for their survival in the new trailer for the three-part finale of X-Men ‘97. The animated Marvel series has been met with much acclaim since debuting last month, with this new footage teasing the intense drama and fierce action that has astounded audiences so far. The three-part finale begins with Tolerance is Extinction: Part 1, which premieres on May 1 on Disney+, followed by Tolerance is Extinction: Part 2 on May 8 and finally, Tolerance is Extinction: Part 3 on May 15.

Following the shocking revelation at the end of episode 7, that Charles Xavier is, in fact, alive, The X-Men find themselves facing a deadly new version of the Sentinels, robots designed for one thing: to hunt and kill mutants. Based on the trailer, the three-part finale certainly promises to be the epic ending to the first season that audiences are hoping for and should have us all excited for X-Men ‘97 season two, which is already in development.

X-Men ‘97 follows a band of mutants who use their uncanny gifts to protect a world that hates and fears them. During the series, they’re challenged like never before, forced to face a dangerous and unexpected new future. To help prep for the finale, former X-Men ‘97 showrunner Beau DeMayo (who was unceremoniously fired from the series just a few weeks before the premiere), has taken to X/Twitter to reveal which episodes of the original series audiences should check out before the first season of the revival concludes.

“Finale prep recommended episodes: One Man’s Worth Pt 1 and 2, Sanctuary Pt 1 and 2, Descent, The Final Decision.”

X-Men ‘97 has been a huge hit with both critics and audiences alike, with a second season now in production and a third in early development. Co-composer Taylor Newton Stewart has teased the return, declaring that season 2 will “up the ante.”

“We’re working on season two. But we haven’t started yet. I know a little bit of the storylines and characters. It’s always upping the ante. I mean, it’s pretty intense what happens. Yeah, immediately when I was told, I was just like, ‘Oh my gosh, what’s happening? This is incredible.’ So, just as a fan alone, I am very excited.”
