Report: Bucks open to trade offers for Giannis

The Milwaukee Bucks are seeking trade offers for star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, sources told ESPN’s Shams Charania.

The Bucks were in Antetokounmpo trade talks before February’s deadline but decided to stand pat and push discussions into the offseason. Milwaukee is reportedly expected to hold firm on its previous asking price of a young blue-chip player and/or a surplus of draft capital.

However, the Bucks are also open to making a major trade to acquire talent that could convince Antetokounmpo to remain with the franchise, Charania reports. The team holds the No. 10 selection in June’s draft.

Co-owner Jimmy Haslam said last week that “before the draft is a natural time” to sort out Antetokounmpo’s future. “Because if Giannis does play somewhere else, we’ve got to have a lot of assets. That’s (general manager Jon Horst’s) job to do. And if he’s here, then you build the team differently.”

Trade chatter about Antetokounmpo began before the start of the 2025-26 season. The New York Knicks were reportedly his only desired destination last summer, but the Bucks weren’t satisfied with the Knicks’ offers.

The two-time MVP suited up in 36 games this season due to multiple injuries. Antetokounmpo missed the last 15 contests of the year and was reportedly at odds with the Bucks’ decision to shut him down.

Milwaukee finished the campaign 32-50 and missed the playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season. Doc Rivers subsequently stepped down as head coach, and the team hired former Memphis Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins as his replacement.

Antetokounmpo is under contract through the 2026-27 season and has a $62.7-million player option for the following campaign, according to Spotrac.

The 10-time All-Star helped the Bucks secure the franchise’s second NBA title in 2021. He’s played in 895 regular-season games during his 13-year career, averaging 24.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per contest.
