Georgia quarterback Carson Beck will undergo an MRI after suffering an injury in the SEC title game Saturday that caused him to miss all but one play after halftime.
“He’s got an upper extremity injury,” head coach Kirby Smart said postgame, according to DawgNation’s Connor Riley. “We don’t know to what extent. It looked okay but he couldn’t have grip strength and couldn’t throw the ball in the locker room.”
Beck returned for the final snap of the game in an emergency situation, handing off to Trevor Etienne for a game-winning touchdown run in overtime. He went back in after his replacement, Gunner Stockton, took a massive hit that knocked his helmet off and forced him to sit out the next play.
Beck was injured on the last snap of the first half when Texas’ Trey Moore hit his arm while he was winding up to throw. The Bulldogs prevailed anyway, winning 22-19 to defeat Texas for the second time this season.
Stockton, a sophomore, went 12 of 16 for 71 yards and one interception, doing enough for Georgia to win its second conference championship in three years.
Beck completed 7 of 13 passes for 56 yards before leaving the contest. The senior quarterback had been on a torrid stretch to close out the regular season in Georgia’s final three games. Beck racked up 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions, including throwing for 297 yards and five scores in a thrilling win over Georgia Tech last weekend.
