Thom Sweeney Comes To Miami’s Design District

Thom Sweeney, the London-based brand known for their contemporary tailoring, is opening a new boutique in Miami Design District this month. Founded by Thom Whiddett and  Luke Sweeney, their new location was designed by Billy Cotton and brings a British touch to Miami’s growing fashion scene. Sweeney filled us in on their latest endeavor and we get to the bottom of whether there’s actually is a real Thom Sweeney or not!

Billy Cotton designed your new store! How did you connect with him and what’s the look of the new boutique?
Billy Cotton has been creating bespoke pieces with us in New York for a long time now. He has been a fantastic friend and customer over the years . Obviously his taste levels are so high and he has a great style, which he is now creating in our stores. Along side our LA loft this is the second store Billy Cotton has designed for us. The Miami space we’re creating is the perfect mix of Miami and the Thom Sweeney DNA .

Why was Miami an important location for you to open in?
Miami has been on our radar for a while now, it’s a vibrant exciting city that isn’t just a holiday destination anymore . It has so much to offer and the energy is infectious. Guys love to dress up here also and are really open to beautiful tailoring. We can’t wait to bring London to Miami!

How often do you both come to Miami?
I’ve been coming once or twice a year for a while now. I love visiting the great restaurants and also love the healthy lifestyle.

For those unfamiliar with the brand, what’s the vibe of Thom Sweeney?
The attitude, vibe of Thom Sweeney has always been the same from day one- Timeless/classic pieces that guys can enjoy for years. Whether it’s a bespoke suit or a cashmere piece of knitwear, we want our clients to have the clothes for years and enjoy them every time they revisit them . A great client of ours here once said, “You create clothes for men with zero ego with the client always in mind.” I loved that and sums Thom Sweeney up perfectly .

How has your customer changed since you created the line?
I actually don’t think our customer has changed that much over the years . As we’ve matured as a company our customer has matured with us but we still have a really diverse mix of customers. We have guys in there 20s shopping with us and our oldest client is 93-years-old, but even he has the spirit of a 30-year-old! So inspiring!

Do people think Thom Sweeney is an actual person?
They do! It’s funny! We love the fact that the actual person Thom Sweeney doesn’t exist.

What other American cities would you like to open doors in?
America is such an exciting market for us. We are focused on New York, Los Angeles and Miami right now but never say never. We do get the chance to service different cities with trunk shows in San Francisco, Boston, Las Vegas  and Washington DC, which we love.
