The New York Mets are pushing for free-agent outfielder Kyle Tucker and have offered him $50 million per season on a short-term deal, sources told FanSided’s Robert Murray.
The offer is for three years, sources told The Athletic’s Will Sammon, who said earlier Tuesday it was in the range of $120 million to $140 million.
Tucker has reportedly met with the Mets multiple times, and he could decide on his new team as early as this week, according to Sammon’s sources. The Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays have also recently met with Tucker, per reports.
The Blue Jays have made a long-term offer to Tucker, sources told ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.
The annual-average salary offered to Tucker by the Mets would put him among baseball’s highest-paid players in 2026, behind potential future teammate Juan Soto.
New York has a glaring hole after trading Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil and losing Pete Alonso in free agency. Adding Tucker to a lineup that features Soto and Francisco Lindor would give the Mets a potent offense to help contend for the NL East crown and shore up their outfield in the process.
Tucker, a Gold Glove winner in 2022, owns a .273/.358/.507 slash line with 147 home runs, 490 RBIs, and 119 steals in eight seasons between the Houston Astros and Chicago Cubs.
