From Miss Italia to the Global Runway: The Story of Mariagrazia Portesani

14

With all of the public discourse and discussions surrounding ‘nepo babies’ over the last few years, there seems to be a pervasive belief among many young people that the only way to become successful in the entertainment industry is to be born into it. Even with social media sites and platforms at their disposal, young people often see those already wealthy or in power continuing to prosper from such potential benefits.

However, Mariagrazia Portesani’s modeling career shows how talent and discipline can transcend humble origins, empowering individuals to achieve global recognition.

Mariagrazia Portesani’s Origins
Mariagrazia was raised in a working-class Italian town. Because of this, she began her journey with little more than a dream and abundant ambition. She refused to let up once she decided on modeling as a career path. Mariagrazia worked tirelessly to succeed and get to the top of her field in modeling. From her humble roots in Italy, she discovered her exceptional talent for modeling at an early age, which led her to the Miss Italia 2016 awards.

There, Mariagrazia was placed among the 20 most beautiful women in Italy. She has since won the Miss Tricologica Lombardia, the Miss Fanunka, and the Gran Premio Lauretana awards, all globally prestigious modeling titles.

Mariagrazia recalls, “Modeling became my path to self-fulfillment and social mobility.”

She launched her career not because of wealth or prior stardom but thanks exclusively to her modeling talent. Mariagrazia has demonstrated a uniquely adept ability in modeling for brands such as the Fiat 500 in recent years. She has become renowned for her grace and flawless precision.

Challenges Overcome
Mariagrazia believes that one of her most significant challenges was that she did not grow up with the “romantic” image of Italy that American audiences often associate with the country. Her humble beginnings meant living a working-class life with many bills to pay. Mariagrazia discovered her talent for modeling in high school, but that didn’t mean that all of her problems were solved; far from it. Even as she tirelessly pursued a career in modeling, she was also busy studying and working evening jobs to make ends meet.

Mariagrazia says, “Discipline and boundless creativity are fundamental to my success in modeling.”

Eventually, Mariagrazia could move to Milan, where she studied communication and advertising. She joined a modeling agency, worked evenings at a gelato shop to support herself, and studied for exams.

Upon her graduation, Mariagrazia moved to Rome, where she worked as a waitress and modeled to pay the bills. Now, modeling has helped her overcome her personal and financial barriers, but it took tremendous hard work and years of perseverance to get here.

Accolades and Awards
Mariagrazia is a global model who is best known for the following credits:

  • Miss Italia: She placed among the top 20 most beautiful women in Italy.
  • Giovanni Cristini: She is the ongoing muse of painter Giovanni Cristini, who said he fell in love with how her eyes “speak.” One of the paintings featuring her face was selected and exhibited at the Dubai Expo in 2020.
  • Fiat 500 USA: She modeled in a commercial for the iconic Italian car, targeted at the American market.
  • Perletti: She modeled for this well-known umbrella brand.
  • Rocchetta: She starred in a commercial as a model for Rocchetta mineral water.
  • She has worked with numerous photographers and was invited as a model, host, and judge at several beauty events across Italy.
  • She was also invited to speak at schools in Brescia, where she shared my personal story and talked about the concept of “beauty.”

Moving Forward
The wisdom that Mariagrazia Portesani hopes to share with others is that discipline and boundless creativity are worthwhile.

“They are fundamental to my special ability and success in modeling.”

Looking ahead, Mariagrazia aspires to broaden her international career, with ambitions to work with global fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton and to deepen her collaborations with brands like Fiat 500 and Perletti. From humble beginnings to international recognition, her career reflects how dedication and resilience can turn dreams into reality.
