My favorite fashion discoveries are always the ones that come about unexpectedly — where I find myself completely enamored with a product I never even knew I needed in the first place. I’ll admit, as a shopping editor, I’m usually pretty clued in on all of the latest and greatest product trends, so it’s rare that anything surprises me too much these days. But when it does, it’s always a delight. Such was the case recently when I was introduced to Numi’s Simone Button-Up Blouse ($220) — a stain- and sweat-proof top that aims to provide all the same appeal of a classic office blouse without the constricting discomfort, fear of sweat stains, or water damage.
While I’ve never considered myself to be too heavy of a sweater, I’ve always struggled to find breathable work tops that didn’t make me feel completely claustrophobic — therefore resulting in panic sweats with inevitable sweat stains to follow (I’m so glad I’m disclosing all of this on the internet!). But the moment I heard about Numi’s magical blouses, I knew it was essential that my sweaty, spill-prone self put the brand’s bestselling fashion top to the test. While Numi has no shortage of fans composed of fashionistas and celebrities alike (Kelly Ripa also swears by this Numi blouse!), the brand has very recently managed to gain yet another in me. What I Like About This Numi Blouse
Despite its seemingly science-defying technology, I appreciate that Numi’s Simone Button-Up Blouse feels, well, just like a blouse. The top is crafted from a sustainable silk material that’s stain resistant from water-based liquids, courtesy of the blouse’s incorporated Bluesign-certified stain-repellent technology. When I first discovered the top, I had some reservations about whether or not the sweat-proof shirt might feel too stiff or rough. After all — how could any waterproof material be that comfortable? Fortunately, all of my concerns about the shirt’s comfortability quickly dissipated the first moment I slipped it on (as did any remnants of sweat or liquid on the actual shirt itself). Sure, the blouse feels incredibly breathable and sleek, but it achieves this without sacrificing comfort and style in the process.
What’s Worth Noting
The retailer has a note on its website disclosing that the top does run tighter in the sleeves. I’m typically a medium in tops and blouses, so I took the risk and went ahead in ordering my normal size, even with the fit warning in mind. While the top does fit comfortably, I can confirm the sleeves are certainly more snug on my arms than some of the other blouses in my closet. Personally, I don’t mind this — if anything, I actually appreciate it given how notoriously oversize and baggy many button-ups can be. That being said, if you’re someone who likes their tops to fit a bit more loosely or you’d just like some extra breathability in the sleeves, I would definitely recommend ordering one size up to ensure optimal comfort.
