Lionel Richie has teamed up with LEGO for a surprising and fun new video clip. The legendary singer shared a short clip where a LEGO version of him is performing his famous song “Hello.” This collaboration was loved by the audience since it was a mix of imagination and past bitter-sweet memories.

It doesn’t happen often that the collaboration of a music legend with a toy manufacturer takes place. Lionel Richie just did it. He shared a video on his social networks that shows a tiny LEGO character resembling him perfectly, singing the opening lines of his 1984 classic in perfect time. The text that accompanies was short and playful, saying: “When LEGO says HELLO.” The video includes the small LEGO lionel singing the famous lines, “I’ve been alone with you inside my mind,” with the dramatic pauses and that classic chorus. It’s a strange, touching mix that was not recognized by anybody as a need.
The audience’s reaction was immediate and extremely positive. One of the viewers expressed very nicely about the crossover, “My two favorites @lionelrichie combined with @lego.” The message depicts how this collaboration results in a win-win situation for the two groups, namely the singer’s fans and the fans of the building blocks. It’s an excellent mixture of pop culture and game.
Another viewer was already picturizing the concept as a product. “I was just waiting for them to announce a Lionel Bust from the Hello video as a LEGO set. That would of combined all my loves,” was their comment. This emotion suggests that there is indeed a huge market for a physical Lionel Richie LEGO doll, perhaps the well-known sculpting scene from the music video could be the main source of inspiration. The error of “would have” as “would of” gives the impression of a spontaneous and excited thought being typed out.
The comments quickly transitioned into a karaoke night. “Hellooo.. is it me you looking for,” was one person’s response with the legendary line. It is an indication of the song’s timeless power. The tune even in a new blocky form still evokes the memory for a group to join in singing.
The video without any doubt attracted a large number of viewers and one of them referred to it as an “absolute treat.” The viewer continued, “Thanks a million for sharing. Really Love!!” The two exclamation marks and heart emojis are the indicators of a very warm, unrestrained at all, joy. This is the kind of person who would express in their reaction how a mere fun-filled idea could brighten up one’s day.
However, not all the reactions dealt with the music or the toys. One user jokingly, in an exaggerated manner, expressed: “Oh my god, my ovaries!.” Such comments, although playful, point to the nostalgia and affection that Richie has built through his music and persona and can, at times, become overwhelming. It is a somewhat unusual type of fandom that is characterized by both humor and fierce loyalty.
Lionel Richie has always been the kind of person who can read the market and keep his popularity switch between the generations. The LEGO deal is a clever example of crossing over the two worlds and “Hello” being the main reason why it still survives as a cultural reference point. Rather than taking the challenge of a new format seriously, he has literally made the move and introduced the song into the LEGO world while giving a fresh and cheerful experience to his longtime fans.
