Pixar’s New Movie Elio Sparks Nostalgia And Cosmic Wonder

Just a few days back, Pixar released the first teaser for Elio, and hordes of fans are already praising the galactic little blob. The studio posted a short clip featuring Ooooo-the character makes noises the entire gamut-and the internet is glowing with anticipation. This Friday, it’s going to be movie time for sure, and judging by the reaction, it’s going to be really big.

The teaser is straightforward and really nice to look at. Ooooo makes all sorts of noises-one moment it’s a quiet murmur, the next a full-fledged exclamation. That weird, quirky, cute little moment-that Pixar does so well. From what the comments say, fans are already in love and emotionally attached to this weird little creature.

In the style of full caps, one member wrote, “I LOVED IT!!!!!” before going in for the comparison with Lilo and Stitch. Another stated that it was the best Pixar movie since Soul, which is considerable praise with Soul entering into the league of definite masterpieces. But even greater were the passionate words of a user: that the movie gave the feeling of those first times that they watched Toy Story 1 and Up. There goes that Holy Grail of Pixar nostalgia.

Some of the comments were interesting as they spoke to how much Elio appears to be channeling the classic Pixar magic for making movies which are on par for adults and kids. One user claimed to have picked up on a hidden reference to Carl Sagan in the dialogue. “Only us adults will get it,” they gleefully wrote. Pixar has always been really good at doing a deeper layer on their films, and it seems like Elio is doing the same.

While there was a scare of disbelief in one doubter, that person claimed to have enjoyed it but felt the pacing was slow. “Definitely was missing something,” they wrote, while conferring still called it a good movie. Another said that Ooooo looks the cousin of Kirby, which… alright, we see it a bit.

Almost every other cartoon movie has since been drawn into the comparison game. Some put it more in the Mario Bros. category; nonetheless, others put in a shout-out to Elemental and Zootopia. The general tones indicated that the most considerable Pixar hit since Coco might be another kid on the block. Your writers have been killing it!!! exuded one particularly enthusiastic comment.

Well then, at least one snarky one had to exist: “I can promise you this is not funny,” a user writes, breaking from the overwhelmingly positive trend. Then came a chorus of people gushing over the colors, the characters, and how their kids loved it.

A relatable comment came from one person who admitted being obsessed with Ooooo before ever seeing the movie. Count me in for every Oooo, they wrote, and honestly? Same. There’s something undeniably charming about this little guy.

Pixar has built up a reputation on making characters that find their way to our hearts, and Ooooo seems ready to go from there, joining the likes of Wall-E, Bing Bong, and company. Only time will tell if Elio manages to reach those emotional heights that come with highest renowned Pixar movies, but judging by the initial buzz, it’s definitely going for it.

The film opens this Friday in theaters and 3D. If the reactions have anything to say about it, you might want to carry a box of tissues. Just in case. Pixar always sneaks up on you. You might find yourself laughing at a cute little cute blob making funny sounds, and the next moment, you’re crying over popcorn about the meaning of existence. That is the magic of this studio, and Elio is also promising another dose.
