Shakira Is Bringing the Dai Dai Challenge to the World Cup Final Stage

Shakira confirmed on Instagram on Saturday that she’s performing at the World Cup Final today, and she’s not showing up alone.

The Colombian pop superstar revealed that dancers from her Dai Dai Challenge will be joining her on stage at the Final. People from multiple countries took part in the challenge. They’re now heading to one of the biggest live stages in sports. That’s a real upgrade from a social media moment.

“These dancers from all over the world joined me through the Dai Dai Challenge, and tomorrow we’ll take the stage together at the Final!” she wrote on Instagram Saturday, adding a heart emoji and a soccer ball. “Who’s ready?”

The post crossed two million likes in under a day. That’s a loud early signal. The global audience is paying attention well before the first kickoff.

Shakira has done this before. She performed at the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa. “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” became one of the most iconic World Cup performances ever. It went way past a pre-match moment. That song became a defining soundtrack for the entire tournament. Sixteen years later, she’s back on the same kind of stage.

The Dai Dai Challenge connected dancers from multiple countries. People everywhere got into it, learned the moves, and posted their own versions. The challenge did what viral trends rarely manage: it built something real around a shared love of the music. Now those same people are getting a live payoff at the biggest game of the year.

Having non-professional dancers on a World Cup stage is worth noting, too. These aren’t backup performers with months of professional training. They’re people who loved the song and showed up for it. That one hits different.

The Final takes place today, July 19. Shakira’s exact performance timing hasn’t been publicly confirmed, but the buildup is already doing its job. An international group of challenge participants, a performer with real World Cup experience, and the biggest stage in soccer. That’s a combination worth watching.

Online reactions came in from all over. Comments in multiple languages, all landing in the same place: hyped and ready. Several Dai Dai Challenge participants replied directly to the post. Some sounded genuinely floored. A dance video filmed at home has become a ticket to a World Cup Final performance. Very few viral trends get that kind of ending.

Shakira’s career has covered a lot of ground in three decades. Super Bowl stages, sold-out stadium tours, World Cup anthems that outlived the tournaments themselves. Bringing challenge participants from around the world onto a live Finals stage is something new though. It turns the whole campaign into an actual collaboration.

The Dai Dai Challenge gets its biggest moment tonight. Shakira’s bringing the whole community with her.
