Because of Swift’s tendency to bring shock appearances and last-minute news to the public, on this occasion, she had not even seen through the courtesy of showing up, thus flooding the detractors with disappointment and meme generation. But the internet-for-your-imagination: total anarchy, jokes, and all sorts of clown emojis.

The popular, semi-official post of TaylorSwiftUpdates went as follows: “Taylor Swift didn’t attend the 2025 #AMAs.” Plain and simple: no speculations and no cryptic hints. Instead, an outright confirmation regarding her absence. Almost within minutes, half of the comment box was filled with disappointed fans and exasperated-funny remarks from fans hoping against hope for some last-moment Reputation (Taylor’s Version) announcement.
Another user put the feeling into words: “Well… we can stop clowning guys.” Another responded, “Time to jump off a cliff,” with a dramatic GIF receiving applause from excited fans who had been refreshing timelines and live streams since the wee hours in anticipation of Swift’s silence.
Meanwhile, some were still hoping to downplay her absence: “Maybe she is just late?” guessed one optimistically. And another pointed out, “You do know you can attend an award show without walking the red carpet…. right…?” Yet, as the hours dragged on with no unexpected cameo, the jests turned to utter sadness.
The absence of Swift from the red carpet was a huge black hole that gulped down all the hopes for an announcement on Reputation TV. The fandom has been waiting for the re-recorded version of her 2017 album and the fandom has been speculating that the AMAs might be just the right platform for an announcement. Instead, they were met with a…zillion. “I don’t think she will announce it,” sighed one fan, while another threatened, “I’m retiring this shi.”
Meanwhile, some others may be unaffected by this absence. Others just could not help putting a spin on the occurrence: “Imagine if she is in the cleaning cart,” she tweeted, with a picture of a janitor’s trolley. It was also pointed out that she was not the only major act who chose to give the event the cold shoulder, with Beyoncé, Billie Eilish, and Sabrina Carpenter having joined her.
Still, let’s be honest: It was the Swifties who had more at stake in the matter, with reactions ranging from humorous to heartbreaking. One even went as far as calling it “lowk a rep tv easter egg,” meaning the end to theories is far from near.
Now, all that remains clear is that Taylor Swift is a master of keeping everyone on their toes. And whether she’s secretly dropping albums or just ghosting award shows, she’s a topic on everyone’s lips. And really, that’s what makes them love her. While leaving them hanging.

As for Reputation (Taylor’s Version), despite their exhaustion, the fans are not quitting anytime soon. Because if Swifties know God-willing only one thing, it’s that Taylor always has something up her sleeve somehow, someday. Maybe. Hopefully.
