Daisy Ridley Sings in Exclusive Clip from New Stop-Motion Film The Inventor

An exclusive new clip from the upcoming stop-motion movie The Inventor finds Star Wars actor Daisy Ridley singing in this tale of Renaissance man, Leonardo da Vinci. Coming courtesy of Blue Fox Entertainment, Ridley voices princess of France Marguerite in The Inventor alongside The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy star and all-around legend Stephen Fry as Leonardo da Vinci. Check out our exclusive new clip from The Inventor below.

The official synopsis for The Inventor reads as follows:

“The Inventor tells the story of the insatiably curious and headstrong inventor and artist Leonardo da Vinci (Stephen Fry) as he leaves Italy to join the French court where he can freely experiment, invent flying contraptions and incredible machines, and study the human body. Joined in his adventure by the audacious Princess Marguerite (Daisy Ridley), Leonardo attempts to uncover the answer to the ultimate question: “What is the meaning of life?”

An all-star cast has been amassed to provide the voices in The Inventor alongside Ridley and Fry, including Marion Cotillard (Inception, The Dark Knight Rises) as Louise de Savoy, Gauthier Battoue (The Best of Us, Emily in Paris) as Francis I of France, and the hilarious Matt Berry (Toast of London, What We Do in the Shadows) as Pope Leo X.

The Inventor is written and directed by Oscar nominee Jim Capobianco, the screenwriter behind beloved Pixar outing Ratatouille, and is co-directed by Pierre-Luc Granjon with music composed by Alex Mandel, whose previous credits include the animated series Super Giant Robot Brothers and the acclaimed documentary Snow Day.

The Inventor Is Due to Land in Theaters Today

Blue Fox Entertainment

The Inventor had its world premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival back in June and has been well-received by critics. Grady Bolding of Cultured Vultures calls the film, “A story like this is indeed timeless and quite inspirational for creative individuals to fall back on,” while The Hollywood Reporter’s Frank Scheck describes The Inventor as, “An engaging and amusing history lesson.”

In an exclusive conversation with MovieWeb, writer/director Jim Capobianco revealed his intention to humanize the historical legend that is Leonardo da Vinci, and hopefully help audiences realize that there is an element of genius in all of us.

“We wanted to present Leonardo in a new way, a way that people — both kids and adults — can watch the film and afterward reflect and realize, ‘Oh, he was a real human.’ And then the thought becomes, even though Leonardo was a genius, maybe there’s some aspect of it that we all, too, can draw from in our own lives. Perhaps people can come away from watching The Inventor and feel that maybe there’s actually a bit of a genius in all of us.”

Capobianco continued, explaining why now is the best time for a film about Da Vinci to be released.

“In today’s market, they are seeking IP for investments. They really want to invest in content where there can be sequels and such. So even though, yes, the film is about the Leonardo da Vinci, the challenge was that people don’t feel that they can hold on to him. He’s everywhere. He belongs to everybody.”

The Inventor is scheduled to be released in theaters nationwide on September 15, 2023.
