DC Animated Movie Slate Announced at San Diego Comic-Con

This weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con revealed an assortment of hugely exciting announcements, trailers, and details of how the MCU will dominate theaters until we have all long been returned to the Earth. In amongst all this, Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has announced their upcoming slate of DC animated outings that are due to follow the upcoming Green Lantern: Beware My Power.

Following the premiere of Green Lantern: Beware My Power, Film Publicist Gary Miereanu revealed what DC fans can expect from the future of the animated universe. Naming several projects which have already been announced, including Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons and RWBY x Justice League, Miereanu revealed the titles of what’s to follow.

Batman: The Doom That Came to Gotham, Legion of Super-Heroes and Justice League: Warworld are all in development, with another Justice Society of America feature also said to be in the works. While the live-action efforts from Warner Bros. and DC are often divisive and seen as lesser examples of the comic book movie genre, the studio’s success in bringing the characters to life in animation is well known.

While details of these projects are largely unknown, we can assume certain things about them simply from the titles alone. Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, for which a trailer has already been released, will follow Jonathan Kent and Damian Wayne as they find themselves burdened with saving the world from impending doom. The two must join forces to rescue their fathers and save the planet by becoming the superheroes they were intended to be. Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons is due for release on October 18, 2022.

RWBY x Justice League, meanwhile, will be based on the seven-issue comic series of the same name from 2021, which finds Bruce Wayne, Clark Kent and Diana Prince fighting alongside Team RWBY.

Green Lantern: Beware My Power Will Tell the Origin of John Stewart

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment

First up in the newest timeline for DC’s animated projects, which began with Superman: Man of Tomorrow in 2020 and is now known as the “Tomorrowverse,” is Green Lantern: Beware My Power. Centering on recently discharged Marine sniper John Stewart, who finds himself at a crossroads in his life, things quickly become even more complicated when Stewart receives an extraterrestrial ring that grants him the powers of the Green Lantern of Earth.

Unfortunately, the ring doesn’t come with instructions – but it does come with baggage, like a horde of interplanetary killers bent on eliminating every Green Lantern in the universe. Now, with the aid of the light-hearted Green Arrow, Adam Strange and Hawkgirl, this reluctant soldier must journey into the heart of a galactic Rann/Thanagar war and somehow succeed where all other Green Lanterns have failed.

Fan-favorite Jensen Ackles has also recently teased another project starring himself as Batman saying, “In fact, I just spent about three and a half hours in the studio yesterday doing, uh, doing Batman. That was a big deal. I don’t want to drop that ball.” So, there is a lot for DC animation fans to look forward to.

Green Lantern: Beware My Power becomes available for home purchase on July 26, 2022.
