First Look Image Shows Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna in Al Yankovic Biopic

For anyone who has ever wondered what True Blood and Frozen 2 star Evan Rachel Wood might look like as Madonna, the wait is over. Thanks to new images and cast reveals from The Roku Channel’s Weird: The Al Yankovic Story, the first image of Wood as the 80s pop icon have been released, and while it is unclear exactly how big a role it will be, she certainly has the look of the Material Girl singer down to the finest details. Wood has joined the cast list along with Rainn Wilson as Dr. Demento, Toby Huss as Yankovic’s father and Julianne Nicholson as his mother, who all will appear in the film which stars Daniel Radcliffe as the comedian and singer himself.

The biopic of Yankovic will tell everything about his life, including his climb from unknown to worldwide star, his affairs, and well-documented “weird” lifestyle, and it seems that everything it promises to be will be delivered in abundance. While the movie will be focusing on some serious aspects of Yankovic’s career, the one thing that it promises to be more than anything else is funny, as the star said himself when the film was announced.

The new image of Evan Rachel Wood as Madonna was shared on Instagram by The Roku Channel, which they captioned, “First look. Evan Rachel Wood is joining Daniel Radcliffe in #WEIRD: The Al Yankovic Story as the one and only Madonna.”

For those wondering exactly where Madonna’s path crossed with that of Yankovic, it all comes down to the comedian’s parody song of the Grammy winner’s song ‘Like A Virgin,’ which he rewrote as ‘Like a Surgeon’ in 1985. Obviously, as the biopic is taking a trip through the archives of Yankovic’s greatest hits as well as many other places, it is going to see a number of other star portrayals potentially playing a big part of his story.

Weird: The Al Yankovic Story Holds Nothing Back and is an Unbelievable Tale To Be Told

There are some life stories that just defy belief, and according to those who know, Al Yankovic’s is one of them. While the musician wrote the script for the movie with Eric Appel, who will also direct the feature, it seems that even as the story was being written, Appel had trouble accepting any of what he was being told was true.

“When Weird Al first sat me down against my will and told me his life story, I didn’t believe any of it,” admitted Appel, “but I knew that we had to make a movie about it.”

“When my last movie UHF came out in 1989, I made a solemn vow to my fans that I would release a major motion picture every 33 years, like clockwork. I’m very happy to say we’re on schedule. And I am absolutely thrilled that Daniel Radcliffe will be portraying me in the film,” said Yankovic. “I have no doubt whatsoever that this is the role future generations will remember him for.”

Recent pictures from the movie have given fans a good look at what Radcliffe is going to look like in at least one part of the movie, and it is fair to say that just like Wood’s Madonna, the resemblance is uncanny. There is currently no set release date for the movie to air, but it will stream exclusively on The Roku Channel.
