In a recent appearance at Steel City Con, Grace answered audience questions about her Ghostbusters journey. As per Fandom Spotlight, Grace was asked what it was like working on Afterlife, and, of course, the age-old question of what it was like working with the ever-unpredictable Bill Murray. She said:

“I talked with Jason and Ivan both a lot, and while I was on set, I had Jason directing me, and I had Ivan directing me, and whenever Bill was on set, Bill was like a third director, so I was constantly getting advice and input on what to do. It was lovely. Bill is hilarious. It’ll be a day before shooting, and they’ll be like, ‘So, we don’t know if Bill’s coming yet, but he should be here tomorrow,’ and I’m like, ‘Wait. What? He’s supposed to start shooting tomorrow,’ and they’re like, ‘Yeah, he sent us a fax. I think he’s driving in from North Carolina,’ and I’m like, ‘What? He’s driving himself in, and he’s faxing you guys?’”

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire Is Bringing a Big Chill to the Big Apple

Sony Pictures

While Ghostbusters: Afterlife was very much about looking back on the franchise’s legacy, with the iconic villain Gozer making a return to the world, Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire is all about looking to the future. This means a new villain, a new story but plenty of the same old Ghostbusters action.

The first trailer for the sequel has revealed that the Death Chill will take over New York City, threatening to plunge the world into a new ice age if something isn’t done about it. This is certainly bringing something new to the live-action Ghostbusters party, but according to franchise newcomer, Eternals star Kumail Nanjiani, the film is very much taking a leaf out of the classic animated spin-off series, The Real Ghostbusters. He said:

I am a huge fan of The Real Ghostbusters (the animated series) and that show was a point of reference for this movie. The filmmakers wanted to make a long episode of the animated series. So if you love that show as I do, be excited.

In the years between Ghostbusters 2 in 1989 and the arrival of Ghostbusters: Afterlife over 30 years later, the question has been asked many times as to why a new movie couldn’t pull a story from the dozens of great ghosts to feature in the seven seasons of The Real Ghostbusters. With the franchise constantly stalling with new plans, it seemed at one point that the time for the original team to get back together had passed. However, the moment things came together for Afterlife, it became quickly apparent that it would take the intervention of a Sumarian god to stop another round of bustin’ action to hit the big screen.

Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire will premiere in cinemas on March 29, 2024.
