Hard Knocks started giving NFL fans more insight into the “behind the scenes” world of football in 2001. Social media began to emerge in the early ’00s, which means this reality documentary-style series was one of the first ways fans got exclusive views on how teams prepared for the upcoming season. From players getting injured or rehabbing, rookies with a chip on their shoulders, or veteran players out to prove they still got it, those at home see the ups and downs of football life. Hard Knocks now has different segments: Training Camp, In Season, and Off Season, and the lights are always shining on a different team. This time, for Hard Knocks: Training Camp, the Buffalo Bills are the stars.
The Emmy-winning sports show continues to be popular, as it’s topping HBO Max’s Top 10 chart in both the U.S. and abroad. The Buffalo Bills have dominated the AFC East over the past few years, becoming division champions back-to-back since 2020. They’ve also made back-to-back Playoff appearances since 2019, emerging as fan favorites to win a Super Bowl eventually.
While the Bills are one of 12 teams to have never won a Super Bowl, quarterback Josh Allen has what it takes to get them there. One of three New York teams, the team that keeps getting in the way of a current Bills Super Bowl appearance is the Kansas City Chiefs, led by three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes. Despite not being in the same division, the matchup (which some see as a hidden rivalry) has become fun to watch.
Allen, who won the NFL MVP award for the 2024-2025 season, had an eventful offseason, marrying Sinners actress and singer Hailee Steinfeld a few months ago. Now it’s time for Allen and the team to set their eyes on the upcoming season, which starts in September with three pre-season games in August. During this time, the team figures out its depth chart, makes cuts to complete their 53-man roster, and look to see who they can keep around on the practice squad. Injuries happen, so some players, including starters, end up on Injured Reserve or, depending on the severity, are out for the season.
However, the Bills are looking forward and not dwelling on their recent AFC Championship Game loss. Although training camp can be a lot of pressure to make the roster, it’s also a time when players and coaches build bonds. Having a positive locker room culture is almost as imperative as winning on the field.
Team Chemistry Is Important to Josh Allen and the Bills

Teams play hard when they play for themselves, their family, and their teammates. When everyone wants to win, and the effort is there, the level of toughness that a team has can set them up against any team, even defending Super Bowl champions. Last season, the Bills gave Kansas City their first loss of the season on November 17. While skill, good coaching, and playing smart secured the win, it was the trust in one another to execute plays that got them to that point. In the first episode of Hard Knocks: Training Camp, Josh Allen said training camp was one of his favorite times of the year because everyone gets to know each other on a deeper level.
