The Rock Has Always Envisioned a Showdown Between Black Adam and Superman

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has always envisioned Henry Cavill’s Superman in a Black Adam movie, the actor has revealed. The action star took to Twitter to comment on a comic book page shared by a fan, which shows the Man of Steel shaking hands with Black Adam, with The Rock replying, “I like it. Sorta how I always envisioned it. Except the handshake at the end. Never. Wrong guy.” So, should the two super-powered beings come face-to-face on the big screen, don’t expect it to be quite so cordial.

I like it.

Except the handshake at the end.
Never. Wrong guy.#BlackAdamhttps://t.co/GKs4RjsYtX

After so, so many years of waiting, Black Adam will see Dwayne Johnson as Teth-Adam AKA Black Adam, an antihero from Kahndaq who is imprisoned for 5,000 years. After casting off the shackles of enslavement, Teth-Adam is chosen by the wizard Shazam to harness the powers of the ancient Egyptian Gods, S for the stamina of Shu, H for the swiftness of Horus, A for the strength of Amon, Z for the wisdom of Zehuti, A for the power of Aten, and M for the courage of Mehen, Black Adam goes on to become the archenemy of the superhero Shazam and his super-powered family.

MOVIEWEB VIDEO OF THE DAY

While there is no confirmation that Henry Cavill‘s Superman will ever appear alongside Johnson’s Black Adam, or even whether Cavill will ever suit up again as the DC icon on the big screen, this is not the first time that The Rock has teased an eventual showdown between the two characters. “One superhero who won’t kill because of his code vs one antihero who’s happy to – because of his code,” Johnson said about the idea of Superman versus Black Adam back in August 2020. “All in the name of truth & justice. Maybe one day.”

More recently, Black Adam producer Hiram Garcia has also stated that a throwdown between Cavill and Johnson’s respective superheroes is something that certainly could happen, with Garcia revealing that he is fully aware of what fans want. “Hard to say, but I know that would be incredible if it ever did happen,” Garcia previously said to Collider. “We certainly know the fans want it! All I can say is that we’re always listening to the fans and doing what we can!”

What we do now know is that, should Superman and Black Adam exchange blows on screen, there will be blood. We know this thanks to Hiram Garcia, who recently revealed that Black Adam will push the boundaries of its PG-13 rating, with the producer even comparing the DC project to Christopher Nolan’s critically-acclaimed comic book movie outing, The Dark Knight. “Black Adam is edgy, right?” Garcia began. “That’s gonna be a PG-13 movie where it was very much like, say, The Dark Knight, where that pushed the edges of PG-13. I think we do that very much with Black Adam. We have a very high kill count in our movie.”

Directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, and starring Noah Centineo, Aldis Hodge, Sarah Shahi, Quintessa Swindell, and Pierce Brosnan alongside Dwayne Johnson, Black Adam is scheduled to be released in movie theaters in the United States on July 29, 2022.
