King of the Hill is back and better than ever, and audiences are warmly embracing the series’ return. King of the Hill Season 14 serves as the long-awaited return to the classic adult animated series that originally ran from 1997 to 2010. Television revivals often aren’t everything they’re cracked up to be, but King of the Hill broke out immediately, earning a 98% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also seems that viewers couldn’t wait to return to Arlen, Texas, and catch up with Hank, Peggy, and Bobby Hill.
The King of the Hill revival is now Hulu’s biggest premiere for an adult animated series in five years, according to Variety. King of the Hill Season 14 reportedly drew in 4.4 million views in its first week of release on Hulu and Disney+, premiering at the number 1 spot on Hulu’s Top 15; it has remained among the top five titles since the series debut on Aug. 4, 2025. The revival has also generated interest in previous seasons of the series, with Disney reporting that Seasons 1 through 13 have grown in viewership by 26 million hours since early March, when buzz for Season 14 kicked off, representing a 41% increase in viewership. The series overall has accrued more than 1 billion hours streamed to date across Hulu and Disney+.
Good News for the Future of ‘King of the Hill’
Hulu
King of the Hill was one of the pillars of Fox’s Animation Domination Sunday block programming in the 2000s, alongside the likes of The Simpsons, Futurama, and Family Guy. The decision to cancel the series in 2010 was controversial among many, and for years, fans waited for some type of revival. When Fox passed, Hulu picked up the revival in 2023, the same way they renewed and revived Futurama. It’s hard to compare the numbers for King of the Hill to Futurama, given that King of the Hill dropped all ten of its episodes at once while Futurama employed a weekly release schedule for its first two revived seasons.
Hulu certainly pulled out all the stops for King of the Hill, giving the series a big promotional push. Hank Hill became a playable skin in Fortnite earlier this year to help kick off the buzz. King of the Hill had a major activation site at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 as well as a panel with the series creators and voice actors. It even had a fast food tie-in as Whataburger, the Texas-based fast food burger chain referenced multiple times in the original series, had a promotional tie-in with Hank Hill’s order.
King of the Hill scoring the biggest debut for an adult animated series on Hulu in five years is impressive. The series has already been renewed for Season 15, a decision that seems like a gimme given the ratings and critical success of the new season. The revival’s setup, which features an older Bobby and a now-retired Hank and Peggy, certainly creates plenty of potential storylines that could be told for years.
